GPRM rocks!

Randy, Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your software. I am playing around with it more this year getting ready and I just created a 162 race schedule for 27 boys. Every boy races 24 times, 6 in each lane and all boys race each other at least 2 times. I have been trying to do this so many different ...

Re: Loop-the-Loop Track

Well, you could have a Demolition Derby, for cars that didn't do so well (or were specifically built for the event). Build two of these loop-the-loops and face them towards each other. Then you could get some spectacular mid-air collisions of cars. This would be a great addition to a PWD. Build two...

Re: Car lenth and speed

We built these rail cars from the plan in Stan's book. The one in the foreground weighed .3 ounces before we added tungsten and epoxy. DerbyAddict, please post a pic of your sons car at some point. I'd love to see it. Absolutely. They probably won't look as good as those. They, as Stan sa...

Re: Microwizard Derby timer and Software questions

I am going to try and borrow a projector to put them on the wall but I might not be able to do that? :?: Lynn See if anyone in the Pack has access to one (perhaps through work, you know it's to support the Scouts :D ). Of course this could be the oportunity to buy that needed home theatre piece. :w...

Re: Car lenth and speed

No, not really to second! We have had cars with only 5 grams of wood. Less wood allows for more high density material, eg tungsten or lead. Take a look at Stan's book, his rail car design has virtually NO wood. My son is building his second Pope-Rail this year. Wood only weight after cutting - 0.2o...

Randy, what is this? I have never seen this on Steve's website. I would love to get a start switch bracket for our Best Track.

Re: Microwizard Derby timer and Software questions

I recommend that you print off this schedule and give it to the person managing getting the cars to the start gate. As soon as cars are going down the track, then (hopefully) the next set of cars is ready to load. This keeps up the pace of the race. I would go a step further and print off 2 or 3 co...

Re: Thinking of Next Year...

Pack only gets about a 30% cut of popcorn sold. So the $4500 additional in popcorn would give us roughly $1300. Currently, our pack only sells about $4500 in popcorn to fund all of the rest of the pack activities. To sell enough popcorn to purchase a track would involve doubling our sales. Don't se...

Re: Derby in Iraq - pics

Count me in!! I'll chat with the committee and see what the Pack can do and I'll hit up the rest of the District at Roundtable. I'll even contact some of my non-Scout friends who are always looking for ways to support our troops and their mission.

We added a 1/4" felt pad (3 spaced across) to soften it. I believe Besttrack is now shipping a pad for this.

Re: Last Hurrah !

This is our final pinewood. Sad in a way. My son wants to know, no actually demands to know, why Boy Scouts don't hold derbies. It doesn't HAVE to be the last one. Get with the DE and see about doing a Boy Scout race at District. Different ways to do it: A patrol race - patrols register as a single...

Re: Friday night test and tune...

We also do ours a week before. We hold it on a Saturday and have some basic tools there. Like ExtremePWD, we feel it helps in case some major work is needed. We also setup the track for the boys to test their car, more to test to make sure they can make it all the way down than to test for speed but...

Re: Back from the races....FINALLY!!!!

Newarcher - Congrats to your son on his victory and congrats to you for the time you spent with him. That pic of him is great - a hard day of racing, got a bottle of water in the pocket 'cause it was hot in the pits and at trackside, big ol' smile on his face and best of all, he is cradling his car ...
