Re: Rattling car

The only thing I can think of is tungsten cubes in a loose weight pocket. We had a car like that 2 years ago where I routed the weight pockets with a 1/4" bit and it left a rounded edge on the side and was also a little too deep. So, as you handled the car, the tungsten would clank together, bu...

Re: Request for Analysis of Proposed Wheel Base Rule Change

The purpose of this change is to reduce the advantage obtained by using expensive ballast. This is the part I simply don't understand. Lead may be cheap, but it's toxic, and unfortunately is much more readily absorbed by children than adults. Tungsten is safer and not terribly expensive, especially...

That's why we don't recommend it. ;) However, we sometimes build with 2 rows of six cubes.
We've done it 2 years in a row with 7 cars and had no problems.

Re: "legal" wheel for Mid America open Scout race

Would be tough to place with 2.5 gm wheels but not impossible. I toyed with buying a laser cut body and fancy plastic fenders but it the end I wanted the car to be made by me; I enjoy the making more than racing. (The kids all made there cars too by the way). Just posted pics of my mid American bui...

Re: Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The Green Machine

That looks awesome. Very, very nice! I'm a fan of the lime ice as well. This is my car from this year's pack race. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3/consolenexus/20140215_141720.jpg BTW, did you use the Testors lacquer clear coat? If not, I highly recommend it. Just be careful...

Re: Derby Worx Pro Body Jig $35 incl. shipping

If you don't mind me asking, what are you moving to? I ask because I got a Block/Silver Bullet this year and did well, but still needed the Pro Body Jig to mark the start of the holes before drilling my canted axle holes. Much like you, I thought I'd ditch it, but have now decided to keep it for tha...

My favorite pic from this year's Pack Race

These are some of the cars we raced at our Pack Derby this year. This one is my car and the cars of three of my sons. Green w/ black wheels (closest) my car. Blue w/ yellow wheels (2nd closest) 8 year old Bear son's car. Orange w/ blue wheels (3rd) 10 year old Webelos I son's car. Orange w/ red whee...

That's all that matters. Trophies are nice, but the experience and memories last a lifetime.

Re: Does Besttrack ever have sales?

My pack is probably going to purchase a new besttrack at some point before next year's derby. Does anyone know if besttrack ever has "sales" or free shipping at some point in the off season. Thanks Not that I'm aware of. From my understanding, their derby track business is part of a large...

Those of us who ream the bore holes use a #40 chucking reamer, which is .0980. I think you'll be fine.

I wonder how many Scouts would attempt an improper balance point just to see if they could cause horrendous damage!
Mine would just be looking for the fire starter to skip the middle man.

Re: Adhesive vinyl -for underbody

We used the HVAC tape for the first time this year to hold the tungsten cubes in place as the cubes were not glued in based on a comment from the DT'ers that they used it without gluing the cubes. (We used it last year to cover voids in the wood we have carved). Initially I thought it was risky but...
