Re: Pledge Floor Care Finish?

This stuff is the real deal. I did this demonstration car to teach my son to airbrush and to test cheap walmart Apple barrel paints and the Future floor polish methods. I was very happy with it. Just remember to never clean the car with windex, as it will strip the clear! https://lh6.googleuserconte...

Re: Solenoid Start Gate Circuit

If I am using a 12V DC 1.5 amp wall wart for power, and NOT using GPRM to trigger the solenoid do I need to do anything other than wire the solenoid to power with a N.O. Switch?

Re: Solenoid Start Gate Circuit

Ok, thanks Randy.
I do plan on having race lane #1 start the race. I thought ti might be nice to have computer control, but based on you advice I am going to forgo the effort.
Thanks. The Software has been a real joy to use, well though out.

Re: Solenoid Start Gate Circuit

I Our pack is going to be the proud new owners of a new 4 lane Best Track/Derby Wizard K2/GPRM setup this year. As I wait for the track to ship I have been gathering parts for a solenoid start gate. I have the timer built (bought as a kit) and I have installed and done some simulated races with GPRM...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Thanks for the Heads up Speedster.
VK, I know I read that post, it is one of the reasons I pushed for it:) Once we get this year behind us with a new track, new software, new management and location I hope that people are impressed with the changes and allow some more.

Re: Scroll saw advice?

For blades I cannot recommend Flying Dutchman blades from Mike's Workshop enough. On pine they will result in a finish that looks sanded. You can try any two samples of one blade for free, just send him an E-mail as instructed at the bottom of his page. http://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm I can ...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

I pushed for it. Problem is the track is way taller than most of the Scouts, especially the Tigers. Other members did not want to deal with stairs and a platform and the risks yadda yadda yadda. I have enough to worry about for this year so I decided to choose my battles. I may work on a platform wi...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Thanks, I appreciate the extra set of eyes, and some great points that needed to be corrected. Noted in green below... Looking over the ruleset, most seems fairly standard. A few things you might consider: - The wheelbase says "Any", but under the wheel section, it says "Wheels must b...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Just a quick update, ~Software has been purchased and installed. I Also imported our roster as a .csv from from excel and set up the dens as groups. Tested out a webcam to take pictures of the cars or the scouts for the image field. Leaning towards using the cars. ~Timer kit has arrived from Microwi...

Re: Top Den Award

I really like this idea, especially counting the entire den. The slowest kid in the pack can still be part of a winning effort, and it promotes solidarity. I am adding it to our rules. I figure if needed we can use an Excel sheet to do the calculations. Would be interested to hear if there are other...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Thanks, that link has some very helpful documents in it that I will use. One thing is for certain, the level of passion for the race is lower in my area than what I am seeing in other districts. We did not even have a district race until last year, and it was open invitation racing. The effort shown...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Again guys, I appreciate the discussion. I am not well versed in the nuances of some of these decisions yet. I agree, pulling a wheel would be a last resort. Unless I saw evidence of it that made me 100% certain, I would likely not do it. I guess I hope that the *threat* of enforcement might deter t...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Thanks VK, more good points to consider. I already sent this to my Pack Committee to ponder on possibly allowing liquid lubricants: "Pro's: If a scout shows up with no lubricant at all, we could quickly and CLEANLY add some to the car to give them a faster car. Cons: We could end up with some c...

Re: In charge of purchasing track and running 2016 PWD....

Yes, I see your point. My point on the Revell axles is that you can get them at our Scout Shop, and they say Officially Licensed BSA on them. TO me that makes it easy for the average or below average skilled parent to stop somewhere and pick them up if they are not up to learning how to make the jun...

Re: Careful what you wish for...

Yep, I certainly have GPRM V2. I even have the computer they ran it on! I have tossed the computer and am now looking to upgrad to Lite or Pro. We made sure every car was brought up to at least 4.8 ozs last year on a borrowed 42' track, and all of them finished. I am trying to finalize the rules for...
