Re: Drilling Pilot holes in slots w/ Pro- Body Jig
Only question I have, is.....What is the negative to running the raised holes? Granted you have to leave some more wood up front with a raised wheel & super thin body, but does dropping the car body an 1/8" help or hurt it any way speed wise? (especially on tracks with low/no center rails)

Re: Advice
Our race is in a few weeks, then I can report the results. We have no center rail, and the scouts are not allowed to "ride a rail" on the outer rails, so my tigers is built to run straight, and one of Dads cars (built identical), is built to steer into the outer left rail. Should be pretty...

Re: Thoughts on rule interpretation....
I tried posting pics of the rules on another thread, and they were too blurry to read, so here is the link to our pack rules...

Re: Buying some power tools, scroll saw, drill press, etc.
I just want through the "search" for a cheap drill press. I went to Menards to look, then onto HF. HF's comparable drill press was very chincy. I passed on it because the display model had LOTS of slop. I could grab the chuck (at any level, up or down), and wiggle it against the shaft. The...

Re: Thoughts on rule interpretation....
I'm just gonna say it: Those are bad rules. I agree completely. Maybe I'm not understanding things correctly, but if the track has no center rails, only outer rails, then you would not want to rail ride at all. Doing so would just be pushing the wheels into the body of the car, slowing it down. I h...

Thoughts on rule interpretation....
Had an interesting chat with our Scoutmaster at this weeks meeting. 2 things I found very interesting to say the least... 1) How would you interpret this rule pertaining to an extended wheelbase & axle holes? Turns out, our SM saw some of my FB pics of my tiger building his car this year. He gav...

Re: We need to be efficient
I would say that you are onto something. Given that the bed raising material was sturdy/consistent (something like a couple of .0625 steel shims cut to the bed size). The only issue I see, is that one would have to remove the front clamp enough, to give room to knock/pull/remove the front bed spacer...

Re: We need to be efficient
Granted the lower/single block has some wear, but I don't see drilling underneath the existing high hole, working. Just not enough meat. That's why I was thinking of having the high hole filled, then redrilling a hole at the desired height. I do realize that that takes away the option of doing 3 or ...

Re: We need to be efficient
IF I'm understanding this correctly, why not take the standard body jig tool, take one (the front) block off, have one side hole drilled out a bit, filled with a tig weld, then re-drill the raised hole? Seems like something that any competent machine shop could do (or anyone with a tig welder, drill...

Re: 1 of 4 painted
Painting with a full size, 20 year old Matco gravity fed gun, that I've used to paint every car (big or small) that I've ever painted, lol. I know it's not the "right" way, but I've never even held an airbrush. I just "tune" the gun down to acceptable/usable settings on these lit...

Re: 1 of 4 painted
Gtdhw, Very nice paint job.. Hope you'll be running this good looking car on oil lubes. You know how the graphite is a killer on the white painted cars. Whoda. Thanks! Never used oil, so it'll be graphite. I know, I know, white is the worst color for graphite, but hoping the fenders will ...

Re: 1 of 4 painted
Thanks fellas! No, not a painter, millwright by trade. I taught myself and have painted a few cars of my own though. I just didn't like the way the model/spray-can clear dried on our first two years of cars, so in our 3rd year (two years ago), I decided to try & see if I could get better results...

This is the car that I started building this year (for our Father/Son race) before I found Derby Talk. My main goal with a car this year, was to see if I could make a set of fenders. I had decent luck with them, learned a lot, and think that they turned out pretty well. Right after getting the fende...
