First attempt....
...at a "fast" car. I had already completed the body/weighting of "Dads car" this year, but after learning so much more this pre-season, I decided to go ahead and try my hand at building another, instead of waiting until next year. Not sure that I did everything 100% "right&...

Re: Final Build for Team Birddog
Congratulations!!
Man, most all of you on here have some early PWD seasons! Are pack hasn't even passed out cars yet, or really even mentioned our PWD yet this year. Our pack races are mid March, and our District is mid April!

Re: Axle prep...
Found this on one of the Derby speed supplies sites earlier this week....
30 micron - 400 grit
15 micron - 600 grit
8 micron - 1350 grit
5 micron - 1500 grit
3 micron - 2500 grit
Was told that Mothers is a 2 micron polish, and that Brasso is 1 micron.

Re: Axle prep...
That axle looks great! Is the coning all done by hand with a file? Also, where are you buying the fine grit paper from? Locally, 800 is the finest I can find. Thanks! The head was angled/coned with file only, and most auto parts store should carry to at least 1500 grit. I get mine from the local au...

I've tried, but my hosting page (tiny pic.com), has a default Avatar setting of 100x75, so I'm still out by just a bit, lol.

Axle prep...
BSA box axle. I'm sure that there are many different ways to prep axles, but this is what we're doing this year. Thought the pics might be helpful to some (although not the best, macro-scope, through my phone camera, lol) I still have two more steps to do, once the MaxV Diamond polish shows up, then...

My boys enjoy using the tool as well!
I'm using a #41 drill bit for the usa wheels. Very nice & no-rock-but-snug fit on the majority of them.

Re: Wheels Suck!
Wow, how many did you go through to get that many under .001? I assume the colored ones are USA, not Revell? I broke down and decided to pick up a wheel "truer", from the local Scout store. I went back and read our rules real good, and it specifically states that "Minor truing of the...

Re: 3D Printed Mustang
Pretty cool. However, it just isn't the same as working the wood to build a car. Anyone ever shove a pine block into a 5-axis CNC machine? That would be zero fun for my scouts and me, and they would learn nothing about working with their hands. "Doing it" is the fun part. :idk: I suppose ...
