Re: Small Body Crack Repair
Darin, I am truly shocked your rules have gone in the other direction. I am the inspector. If that car came to me and the wheelbase was 4 3/8", I would have passed it. Our height limit has gone from 2 1/2" to 6 1/2". Our scout shop sells lights, wheels that glow in the dark or glow un...

Re: Small Body Crack Repair
Darin, I'm trying to figure out what rule it would violate. Is it "No sharp objects"?

Re: Night-before build day
leerbennett, Please be patient with me. I have a few questions regarding the car. Do you use the AWANA kit? If so, are the kits given to the racers FREE? If not, do you keep extra kits for someone wanting a kit at the last moment? What are the rules of the race? I am presently working with someone i...

Re: Night-before build day
You're very 1st paragraph said you wanted to run a night before "build day". That opens you up for anything and everything. You're inviting children to a Workshop. You will need to be able to build and complete a car. That's going to include weight if someone walks in with an AWANA kit. If...

Re: Night-before build day
This is something that will save a lot of time in the build. The top of the car was covered with the full width of duct tape. The piece was placed on the top of the car with one side even with the side, car turned over, extra tape removed with a box carter and cutting board. No cutting of a special ...

Re: The West Coast Grand Prix
THAT IS FASCINATING and very detailed. Thank you for sharing. I know I'm going to get asked about the ones I have because I'm going to display them at our workshops. I Love the detail.

Re: Night-before build day
This topic made me think of many things so I decided to see how cheap this could be done with only a hammer, box cutter and something to cut the lead. Lead is soft and cuts easily. I'm using 24 cars because of the pricing of some things from the vendors. 24 cars - $58.80 16 lead rods - $28.00 MV whe...

Re: The West Coast Grand Prix
Mr. Eagle, I am fascinated by the intricacies of the trophies. I would like to know , from the very beginning to the very end, how they came into existence. They obviously were custom made. How can anything make something like this in such detail? Can they be any color? Can they be 2 colors? What do...

Re: Night-before build day
This particular speed build would cost each person about $7.50 (plus there's always shipping) but they would have the weight so it would be cheaper then buying a kit. You would actually be holding the weight in with duct tape. Darin is right about everything. You're going to have 25 children and the...

Re: Night-before build day
leerbennett, what you are asking can be done but not using an AWANA kit or any other kit. However, if what you want is for 25 children to build cars and have them race ready in a few hours, that can be done with perhaps 3 or 4 people helping. The weight would be 80 % ready before the workshop starte...

District races CANCELLED
Two of our Districts have cancelled races for tomorrow. I know you are not suppose to say to someone, "I know how you feel", but this time I think I have an idea how you feel. My scout this year is in the Northwest District that has the 4 on the ground rule and this was a new experience fo...

Re: The West Coast Grand Prix
Yep, I think I've seen everything. The thing that made me smile the most is when I tried to count all the wedge cars and realized I don't know how to count that high. That is impressive. All the cars are beautiful. I think you might be the only one that has ever had a race with vintage cars, other t...

Re: Lightnin's Simple Alignment Test
Davet, we're getting a bit Off Topic here but briefly no one knows I do it. We teach The Physics of the Pinewood Derby at our workshops and I offer Troy Thorne's book For Sale for $10.00. I absorb the shipping cost. Troy's book is on a separate table by itself for anyone to look at. The scout and hi...
