Re: Winning
Avi8tor, I think that opening your shop up to all the boys in your Pack (not just Den) is the solution you are looking for. However, there is a cost involved with doing this… If someone else’s son beats yours next year; your son may be a little resentful for you helping another boy beat him. Of cour...

Re: Painting body around axle holes
2kids 10horses and a goat is right; you need to spin or roll that new graphite in before racing. We roll the graphite in by rolling the car on a clean flat surface with a little downward pressure or we break out the 2 X 4 that I made years back and have them roll their cars down that. [I ripped a st...

Re: Outlaw racers
Many years ago, the Engineering Department where I work had a Pinewood Derby Race to help bring the group that worked in our city closer to the other group that worked in Hotlanta. I’m not sure how that part went but I know that I missed seeing a Estes powered pwd car rip down the track, go through ...

Re: Weight
CubScoutsDad, In answer to your original question, I weighed the 17 pineblocks I have in my workshop. Nothing has been done to these besides measuring them for squareness. I had weights ranging from a lite 3.01 ounces to a heavy 4.87 ounces (average calculated out to be 3.96 ounces). By the way Stan...

Re: What is the common ratio of moly and graphite mixed?
I don't think that straight moly is as fast as a graphite-moly is. I think that someone on this board showed this in some tests but can not remember who. From my own experiences it is slower: many years back we were getting ready to leave for the District Pinewood Derby Race. My two sons had placed ...

Re: PAINTING
Not on subject here but I had to comment on Pinewood Daddy's Block Car: I made a simular car three years back but lacking balsa wood at the time I routed out a pinewood block. This was one of several cars that the boys could pick as a filler car. It was unpainted and looked just like someone had sla...

Re: Wood Filler
We add our weights from the bottom so we don't have to worry about how it looks or if we mess up the paint job that everybody sees. This also allows us to add/remove weight on inspection day without harming the paint job. However, on the occasion when we have made a 'break through' when routing out ...

Re: 2006 WIRL CAR
WOW
Guess it will be fast because at a WIRL race you will be drag'in instead of running around in circles like at a NASCAR race!

Mossk,
That's what happened to our old track and finish line! The Pack it went to refurbished it and this will be their second or third year racing on it.

Re: New Track Purchase
Mossk, Had to throw my $0.02 in here... Some considerations here that you may or may not have thought about: First off when I purchased a track for our Pack to use a few years back I wanted to get a track that as closely matched what they would be racing on at the next level. The Pack that always ra...

Re: T-shirts and stickers
Sporty, Nice looking shirt. If we ever get to run a Cubmobile these may make some nice prizes instead of another trophy. Will you be selling the shirts already printed or will this be the graphics only? Are these iron-on type or something else (I ask because we had problems with some iron-on transfe...

Re: Need a patch maker
Nosam116, I am assuming that you are looking for a custom patch here. We have had very good results with Little Awards: http://littleawards.com/littleawards/index.htm for past Custom Pinewood Patches and will be using them again this year for both our Pack and (I hope  ) our District Races. I ...
