Re: Fastest Pinewood Derby Car Designs and Pinewood Derby Rules
I can’t believe they’re still touting a quick start front as being a speed secret these days! I thought those went out of style when the spring loaded start gates came on the scene?

Re: Aerodynamics ?
I think that the BSA doesn’t do enough to emphasize the STEM aspects of the PWD. They are focused on model building and sportsmanship. Not unimportant goals, but it seems they could do more with it? Not to derail the thread but if anyone has seen a curriculum that includes STEM concepts on PWD topic...

Re: moral/ethics dilemma
That looks awesome!
For the open class at our pack race I do as Speedster has suggested. Build it as fast as you want and declare yourself ineligible for an award. Easy to do with GPRM and you still get to race!

Re: 2017 Ford Fast Track Races
I've never seen a BSA wheel that meets the "The wheel diameter may not be less than or greater than 1.25″. " rule. I wonder what kits they are using?

Re: Transition for wooden track??
I built a track using the plans Randy referenced a few years ago. Only thing I didn't like about it was the start gate. It's hinged like a trap door so the start pins pull down instead of rotating forward. It really favors cars that sit higher. Since the track was already built, I decided to modify ...

Re: Best Track Mods
I had purchased BestTrack's leveling kit when I bought my track but I had to modify the kit to compensate for my uneven basement floor. There's a floor drain and the floor is sloped towards the drain so I had to add some extensions to the feet in the middle of the room. I made them about 6" lon...

Re: The Big Day
I had never seen it done this way, but all racers got four heats at random, each time in a different lane. Head-to-head races didn't matter so much as the computer system simply took all four heats and averaged out the times. The final results were based on the four-race average. Has anyone else ev...

Re: Drilling angled Axles?
If the rules allow for an extended wheelbase, would they allow you to run a 5kids-style front axle holder up front? Short length of 3/16" Delrin rod inserted into the body and drilled at an angle for the axle. Turn the holder/axle assembly to set the drift. Could use a wood dowel if you think t...

Pics of the board with a BSA wheel next to it for reference (that is a CR 2032 coin battery in there): http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii193/bracket_racer/Mobile%20Uploads/image_97.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii193/bracket_racer/Mobile%20Uploads/image_98.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com...

Re: The ultimate in performance data collection
I took some pics before work this morning. The wood chassis provided has the stock BSA 4 3/8" wheelbase but it is shifted forward a bit, 3/8" I'd say. Might give up a little PE there but the body definitely adds to the cool factor! It just snaps on to the wood chassis, no screws required. ...

Re: The ultimate in performance data collection
The board and battery alone weigh 9.65 grams Randy. As delivered, it's nearly 1/2" tall because the two buttons stick out on one face and there is a programming connector sticking out on the other face. Hey, they are having another contest if any of you guys want to try to win a board: http://c...

Re: The ultimate in performance data collection
Package arrived today! I guess I misunderstood what I won. It wasn't just the board, they sent the whole car kit! http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii193/bracket_racer/Mobile%20Uploads/image_91.jpg I need to get the app loaded now. It says it's designed for phones but I only have an Android tablet,...

Re: The ultimate in performance data collection
It looks like I'll get an opportunity to mess with one of these Thunderboard React kits! I found a contest on their website where you had to take a quiz about the product and write a short essay on how you would use it for a chance to win one of ten kits they were giving away. I won one! It's just t...
