Where you going to keep all those trophies ???!!!
Congrats again ! Great way to finish. Expect some strange feelings next year when you don't have a car in the race. I am sure you will be involved somehow though.

Re: Checking run out on the wheels.
You will get cleaner results if you cut a couple of 1"x1"x1/8" angles 3" long, bolt them together separated by about 1/2" stacks of washers, and filing a 1/8" deep v-groove across the center. Rocking goes away and more wheel is exposed. If you put a collar around the p...

Neat trick with wood putty
As they say, necessity is the mother of invention. I recently drilled right through a car body in a last minute mod to shift some weight. With a very thin body and crowded weight pocket there wasn't much height to glob in a bunch of wood filler and the shape was pretty irregular. So I tried two new ...

Re: How are the wheels this year ?
Unless you are really good at building PWD Cars, the mold # is not the area that will get your Scout lower or increased track times. Alignment is key . I agree Murph. From what I saw though, some of the wheels might be so bad now that those that can really prep a wheel (and are allowed to by their ...

How are the wheels this year ?
We are out of the game, but a friend shared their out of roundness measurement data on a large set of the current wheel crop and the results were surprising. Larger numbers than I have ever seen before (up to 10/1000th's  ) for a fair number of molds. #2's still look best overall (bore diameter...

This may be the post, it links to a picture I can't check it right now, but I do have that or a similar jpeg from Terry: http://www.derbytalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2162&hilit=hub+sander&start=0 I remember Terry using a two way vise. I did have some conversation with him about it. I th...

Re: smallest bore or least runout, which is most significant
I recall that Teeeman was, in the end, not really high on any of his approaches other than using a lathe. I see he recently visited, so maybe he will comment directly. My own two cents is that its pretty difficult to improve runout using a drill press. With the current (at least last year) reasonabl...

Re: wheel base work around
You can make a fast car with either standard or extended wheel base. There is no 'magic' with an extended wheel base. LOTS of other factors (alignment, wheel/axle prep, weight placement, etc.,) will determine if your car is fast.

Re: Using a Tungsten Round this year
This is a forever debate. For us to be competitive in 4-wheel down BSA races, we put the COM at around 0.5" on extended WB cars and closer to 0.75" on standard wheel base cars. Weight was also placed as low as possible. That's with very good wheel work, alignment, etc., and cars that were ...

Re: New Products from Maximum Velocity for the 2011-12 Seaso
Really a slick idea. Now if you made them a tad bigger, forget about polishing and knock off that stub so that you could embed that whole .2" high triangle into (not above) the car body at the very rear - that would be really cool !

Re: Need help identifying timer/hardware; source for parts
Another great reminder why its best to leave a copy of your circuit, parts list and software code with the item when you build something like this and leave the organization. I didn't look at the pictures very long, but it appears as if someone took an existing PIC with precise timing interface boar...

Re: Test track
Our 3-lane, full length practice track was also built using inexpensive materials. It lasted long enough for our purposes and was probably a little over $100 including the timer kit. I only offer that mocking up the desired track's configuration is of greatest value because the stability issues you ...

Re: Test track
My two cents would be that the timer isn't going to be of greatest advantage if your test track doesn't lay out and act like the race track. To optimize your setup, you need to be working on a similar-to track. Otherwise you are perfecting for the wrong track as a car that wiggles on one track might...
