Re: Scouts and Ethics
I hear ya Teeeman. We live in a Narcississtic society. Take Myspace for example, what a great way to show off and be self centered. I bet the majority of those Narcississts would not even recognize their next door neighbor if they crossed paths on the street. I too have been jaded, except this was a...

Re: Nickel plating: stainless steel vs. zinc
Before doing this to the axles I did some homework on muriatic acid to see what I was getting into and I am feeling compelled to follow up as a warning about the muriatic acid. I would feel horrible if a scout(or anybody) was harmed from something he gathered out of a topic I started. I would not re...

Re: Nickel plating: stainless steel vs. zinc
Why must the zinc be removed, does zinc affect the bonding capability of the nickel plating? Muriatic acid is what we use on our work boat to remove rust. That stuff is amazing, just make sure to dilute first! I guess now the only thing to consider is weight difference in the axles. Even though it w...

Nickel plating: stainless steel vs. zinc
I was able to track down some stainless steel axles and was thinking about nickel plating a set. I dont know if I am wasting my time and money spending the extra $ on stainless instead of sticking with zinc. I am hoping the stainless will act as a better base coat and give a more uniform and consist...

Re: Extra wide axle gap
If it did it wasn't noticeable, the starting gate is spring operated and I think that leveled the playing field.

Extra wide axle gap
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj41/frontosacam311/100_0597.jpg Here is a pic of some of the open adult class. The competition was tighter than ever, lots of photo finish's. I was impressed with the 2 cheater bars, very clever way to incorporate it into the design without using wire.My car is o...

Re: RR pull
I had no idea it was that involved, but that answers a lot of questions on this years cars performances . All along I was thinking an extended wheelbase meant nothing if your alignment was good. I am going to look into design a whole lot more now.

Re: RR pull
I am a little stumped about something. Take two cars with identical COM. say 1.5" in front of rear axles. Both cars same length as well. Can one car have a lighter nose than the other? Or should I say, is weight distrubution different than COM. One car is a wedge and the other totally hollowed ...

Re: First place race and new track record!
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj41/frontosacam311/100_0605.jpg Guess I shouldv'e added some more details. These cars are the Royal Ranger style. 5 oz., 7.5" max length, and has them dreaded dowels. As far as the times go, I had my wife sit and record the times of every race that my car wa...

Re: First place overall speed
Just got back from sectionals today. Can you believe that this same car had the electronic finish malfunction twice on it today! Thats a total of 3 times this year. The first time today it happened ended up puttting his undefeated car in a situation where he had to race the 2nd place car for first p...

Re: Please help, need expert advice
Here's the follow up. Went ahead and fixed show car to pull 1.5" in 4'. Didn't race it though, too risky. Instead my winner car went undefeated, set a track record and after the race I raced the show car vs. the winner and lo and behold- I managed to severely slow the show car by lessening the ...

First place race and new track record!
Just got home from sectionals. Today turned out great. My race car went undefeated this year. We raced on a 42' freedom best track. Before today the track record was around 2.9875. My low time was 2.9285 and overall average was 2.94. By far the fastest car I have ever constructed, thanks everybody. ...

Re: Another Season Come and Gone....
Congrats on Districts! I had the same thing happen to me one year with the double elimination. My car placed 4th overall- yet it had beaten the third place car. My car had been double eliminated before his had. So from what I have gathered the double elimination works great for placing the two faste...

Re: Please help, need expert advice
Been thinking about what to do all day. I am going to relube the winner car and race it. Even if my show car could be made faster with a minor adjustment I wont know till its too late. Who knows, it could be the destiny of the winner car to win. I will go ahead and fix the show car and after the off...
