Re: First teardown and best way to get epoxy off tungsten??

Doesnt really help in this situation, but we have been alternating cubes and a canopy. If you think you want to save some money and reuse, the 3.5oz canopy is awesome. We are not going to the professional races, but have not found a difference in using one or the other. Last year, my 2 sons made one...

ESS remote start

We got approval to finally replace our dinosaur track that our pack has last night with a new 42' 6 lane best track. We also got approval for a remote start option. I am looking at the ESS, but would like to get some reviews from any that may have used it, or the option from the judge. The judge see...

Re: Accurate testing on a shorter track?

Maybe I am not thinking about everything, but one way we have tried to combat that is our track at home does not have a set starting point, we just prop it up on either a bench, or window sill, etc. We then do testing with steeper angles to see how they do down the hill and through the transition, a...

Re: Accurate testing on a shorter track?

To go cheap, we built a quick 2 lane, 24' track at home. No timer or anything, it was approximately $22 and a few hours labor. It is useful, as we take last years cars, make sure they look good, then use them as a baseline. While we may not be able to get millisecond changes, we have been able to do...

Re: Best Track Storage Box

I know this is a from last season, but since we will probably be ordering a 6 lane 42' best track in the next few weeks, I am interested to see pictures of the storage box that the panels stand up in. It seems like it would be easier to get the sections in and out, and possibly provide better storag...

Re: Champ vs Fast Track K2, K3

I think for our pack, that 4 lane is correct, the only reason there is consideration for a 6 lane is that since there is no district races (or council) near me, that we are throwing around the idea of running either a district or some sort of invitational in our area, which a 6 lane may be better to...

Re: Champ vs Fast Track K2, K3

Since we typically run for points and have a projection screen, the K2 seems the way to go. Do you recommend the kit? Does it come out looking as good? I am not afraid to do a little labor, but want it to look professional when I am done. One more question - can the finish line be put on backwards s...

Champ vs Fast Track K2, K3

My pack seems to finally be ready for purchasing a new track, and we have a meeting next week to discuss. I am planning on suggesting a 4 lane Best Track, but we will discuss 6 lane as well. We currently have a 3 lane wooden track that was built in the early 80's and is in pretty rough shape. In loo...

Re: Fairly basic question about race divisions

I guess I am biased, as I have never been with a pack that had a decent track, so times really never made sense, although I think our current pack may finally be getting a new besttrack this year. With older tracks that rely on a starter to open the gate, instead of just releasing it, timing can be ...

Re: Should a Cub Scout win two trophies?

Maybe I am old school, but I do not like the trend of everybody getting a trophy to make sure timmy doesn't feel bad. I have to qualify this due to my kids always being in the top, but as my pinewood dad career winds down (youngest is now a Web1, so just this year and next at most), I think they sho...

Re: For outlaw, how much weight is too much weight?

We had an outlaw race at our old pack, and one of the dad's made "the bomb" which was a 2 lb steel weight ontop of a thin car. It was beat by the best of the standard cars, but had a ton of momentum, so if the track was really long, it probably would have won. The first time it ran, it hit...

Re: Unlimited class in heats: how/who to advance

Our new pack (we moved to a new state last year) had a a setup where they only took 1 from each rank to the finals, and since there were only 8 total between tigers and wolves, they were only going to take 1 of them. Since my sons were a wolf and a web2, and we came from much stiffer competition, th...

Re: Derby Fun Day--Most wins in one hour was sour

I know I am a little late, but my opinion on this would be if you keep the race, keep it as is. It really is not an official race and just for fun. If you put stipulations on it (only cars built today for example) then there will still be unfair elements. You will get some people bringing in parts, ...

Re: How to run a full system test without a start switch

I do not remember doing anything special (but it was a few weeks ago). I am on ver 12, so maybe I did use the option gpgraceman suggested. I took the finish gate back to the church for storage, so unfortunately, I cannot check it. We use a Fast Track timer/ start switch, but like you, I did not have...
