District Best Design-No Awards
Just interested in everyone's differing opinions. There is a District in the Erie Council that has no voting, gives no awards, for "Best Design". All scouts are invited to the District races and can set their car on tables so folks can see them. Lots of Pros and Cons I suppose. Lots of Sco...

Re: Setting COM when pouringf lead
Don't do it. Both the fumes and liquid lead are dangerous and your son can't have any part in it. You're also fighting the Laws of Physics. A single lead rod from Max-V is cheap and 5 lbs. of it are cheaper by the piece. You can have a lot of fun with your son, a scale, and moving those lead rod pie...

Re: Liability at Workshops
Thanks guys, and Thank You FS for all the Blue words.
We were able to get the Jerusalem Township Hall which wasn't being used tomorrow. The Trustees are past Cub Scouts and fondly remember the Pinewood Derby. I remember Ron's son winning the District race a few years ago.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Bill

Liability at Workshops
A friend's Pack and my Pack were scheduled to have a workshop in the Boy Scout Troop building which is loaned to them by a church. Two days ago we were told we could not use it. Too much Liability. It seems this was talked about long ago but I don't remember what was said. Do you folks holding Works...

Re: Proving a point
That's what you get for putting all those Fancy Paint jobs on those cars. I like my scout to put stickers on his car and then peel a couple of them back so they look like they're falling off. That way the inspectors feel sorry for him and help him glue them back on. They forget about inspecting the ...

Re: Thoughts on these rules?
The 3/8" wheel width rule is fairly standard. That shouldn't cause a problem. The rules seem very generous if these really are the rules and they didn't accidentally leave something out. That could be clarified with management. As I read the rules, you can build an extended wheelbase, 3 wheel r...

Re: Paint Drying Time?
We don't offer painting at our workshops. Unless you are really into refinishing and going for a super smooth, high gloss finish, spray painting is not necessary. In fact, it's dangerous. A little boy with a dust mask isn't being protected. Many people think if the over spray is stopped they're fine...

Re: Best top coat to resist graphite
I think it hurts you more than helps. Plus, as you say, it makes a mess. Most of the friction is in the wheel bore and there is a very specific way to polish and lube it. You might want to use the "Search" function and learn how the experts prepare a wheel. It will be a lot less messy and ...

Re: Question - 3 Lane Track, equal numbre of races in each l
Our Pack has a 3 lane track. We race Elapsed Time, 2 turns per car in each lane. We do not have a final. After the Tiger race we have an Open Race, open to everyone, with different rules. Mid America races once on each lane on a 6 lane track and removes the slowest time. I like that, especially for ...

2 part automotive clear coat in a rattle can. Graphite will wipe off with a little liquid dishwashing soap on a handkerchief.

WHEELS CANNOT BE MODIFIED. His wheels are illegal. I'm not sure what else could be written after it's stated "WHEELS CANNOT BE MODIFIED". I'm getting the feeling those wheels don't weigh anything near 2.6 grams.

Re: Car design differences for 49' Best Track
With your rules, this is the way I would build a car using 3/8" tungsten cylinders. Increase rear cant to 2 1/2 degrees Cut car like Hershey bar, 1/4" high until you need more wood for the cylinders. No more than 5/8" of wood behind rear axle slot. 4 - 3/8" tungsten cylinders fro...

Re: Registration tonight - suspect car / notched raised whee
The car is Revell "Grand Prix Racer Kit" Product ID: RMXY 9634. It is missing the front cross piece, driver and rear air foil. The only thing I can think of for the groove is the wheel shaver was adjusted and the groove was cut. Perhaps there was a total misunderstanding and the intent was...
