Re: Left to Right COG

Ditto what they said. 7/8 is still conservative on that track, but with great prep and setup can still be very fast to the finish.

Re: Trophies

I believe I agree with you Darin. The main thing for us has been to recognize design at all and to put it on equal footing with racing. Now that the Pack has accomplished that, I believe the next logical step is to eliminate award restrictions between racing and design. The only concern that gets vo...

Re: Containing the wiggle at 5/8" com

What details did I not share that you are interested in? Well, relevant rules restrictions (like no narrowing of the body), and specific camber used at each wheel, come to mind....it would be nice to confirm drift setting. Without narrowing the body, some neg camber in the rears with some creative ...

Re: Containing the wiggle at 5/8" com

Assuming that your drift on an alignment board is between 2 and 3 inches...you shouldn't be over or under steering due to incorrect toe with a 5/8 inch COM. You haven't shared some details, but I would look at keeping the wheel gap consistent and small. Rather than using gap to keep the rears off th...

Re: An Alternative Rail Guiding Alignment Process

Because most 3-wheel cars are not symmetrical, just pivoting an arm from one side to the other does not maintain a target weight distribution. I suspect that is not very important in alignment, but I think that I need to "stay pure" during development, lest I pollute the stats! If it turn...

By Rank + Open 1-3 Trophy Race 1-3 Trophy Design (Boys vote) Turtle Trophy (slowest avg w/ no DNFs) Note: Race trophy winners are excluded from competition slate in the Best Design vote unless they choose to pass on the race trophy. This year we had a boy who gave up a race trophy to remain eligible...

I'm liking that Wolf / BSA 2010 car to take the prize. Good looking finish too.

Re: An Alternative Rail Guiding Alignment Process

Personally, I like the ability to add incremental "heavy" weight to optionally "stess" the car thus accounting for full load under g-force through the transistion. An assortment of lead fishing weights from the sporting goods store works nicely. One arrangement that seems useful ...

Re: Just need to vent...

It seems to me a noisy data stream is just as likely to cause erroneous results, if not more so, than intermittent power loss in the middle of a heat. Picture this: Three wire data connectons on degraded 50-100 foot long cat 3 or worse telephone wire, taped together with ungrounded two-wire 50 foot ...

Re: Bore prep

Best wishes on the race!!!! Thanks man!! It's been a very stressful past 2-3 weeks with being very busy at work and staying up to midnight/1am to get stuff done. I can't wait to get onto other important things (income tax!!). You'll forget all about the long nights on race day...and you'll miss it ...

Re: Just need to vent...

Just thinking about this I wonder if there also could have been a data communication error. Similar to having a poor serial connection, com port contention, improper parity bit setting, or even just a intermittent UART-like component failure. Bad or noisy communications or physical data communicatio...

Re: *5 J's* 2010 Stable

Beautiful fleet! Well done. Yes, we have never hesitated to refill and redrill if the holes don't pass muster. Never have whittled through it though...we just opt for dowel or round toothpick + elmers wood glue. But, the main thing is you didn't just settle and you've now "done your best"!...

Re: Displaying All Rankings and Times to Everyone after the Race

In our neck of the world complete race data and stats are available on the web for those that are interested, of which there are a fair number. There is no attempt to scrub or anonymize the data (reported and zipped into a spreadsheet format. Council also publishes unabridged data and summaries too....
