Re: Final Build for Team Birddog

Those are very cool cars Birddog! If the number 72 the Pack number? If not, what's the significance? Question about your Pledge statement: Do you typically use Pledge like folks use Brasso on their axles? Or do you do it in addition to Brasso? My understanding of Pledge is that you spray your axles...

Final Build for Team Birddog

Well, my son completed his cars last night. All that is left to do is test and tune and pick the fastest car to use at the Pack race next weekend. If we place top 3, we'll also race at the District race in April. We forgot one speed step, spraying the axles with pledge. Hopefully that won't come bac...

Re: Axles or Wheels?

If you're running BSA axles, you definitely need to clean those up before you run them. Unworked bores are not too terribly horrible, IMO, especially if you're running graphite. I'm with Vitamin K on this one. Axle prep to remove those terrible burrs at the head and to remove the grooves is imperat...

Re: Wheels Suck!

As an involved Dad, THIS is is the joy that I get out the pwd every year, win or lose (of course I want them win too! but that is just a bonus IMO). I agree completely. The journey, spending quality time with your son in the workshop is what PWD is really all about. The process (methods or tools us...

Re: Wheels Suck!

For what it's worth, I've never tested a wheel for run out. I just grab 3 wheels from the same mold number and use them without any testing what so ever. We've never lost a race at the pack or district level, so I doubt we are just "lucky". I suspect the other methods we employ overcome an...

Re: Team Noskills 2016 Final Derby Line-up

Love your fleet this year Seth! Congrats on the final build! This is our last year as well. Hope to post some pics next week. I didn't build a car for the open division this year, just had my Scout build 2. He named the cars "last ride". After the build, I'll be selling off most of my PWD ...

Re: Re lube

Agreed, oil lubes last much longer. Although I'm told you can ask for a re-lube of graphite to be done at MA with a special note in your car, we did not include any such note, so my guess is that the car was not re-lubed at all. It is possible that car times change more as a function of the cars the...

Re: Re lube

At the Mid-America race, the graphite cars run 6 runs (once down each lane of a 6 lane track). After that, those who move on to the grand finals, run another 6 runs down the track, for a total of 12 runs. My son's car was mailed in, so although those who are present at the race can re-lube, those wh...

I use the same method as NoSkills, but without the turtle wax step.

Re: Ideas towards Cub-centric wheel improvement...

So here's the problem I want to solve: There's no good way for cubs to true up their wheels that can be done without expensive equipment. There exists the Derbyworx wheel shaver, but I've actually become less pleased with this tool, the more I've worked with it and evaluated the output. Anyhow, as ...
