Re: Which car?

I think you'll get more of a reaction from the audience with a car that has only 3 wheels. Lifted wheels are generally hard to see, but with that design, it will be very obvious.

I vote orange!

Re: Couple of New Derby Videos

Wow, that stop section on the District track looks painful. Hopefully all the cars survived it!

Re: Mass-Producing Lead Weights for Scout Use?

He didn't ask about the safety aspects of it, which I don't know anyone personally affected by it, paint chips or otherwise - so I will not comment on that. The whole point of my post was that he should be concerned with the safety aspects of it. So much so, that the entire idea should be dropped i...

Re: Mass-Producing Lead Weights for Scout Use?

I tell my scouts not to mess with lead. It is dangerous and not worth the risks associated with its contact. Personally, I wouldn't touch the stuff if I didn't have to (I reload shotgun shells, so end up dealing with 25# bags of shot quite a bit). If I was forced to use lead for PWD, I wouldn't melt...

Re: Best Track Light Tree

I also was a bit taken aback by the price. I'm not sure I can even take that to my committee as they would probably throw me out of the room. That said, it does look very nice. I don't see the drag racing option with the split start gates getting used by our pack at all as that would be a huge chang...

Re: Besttrack storage box build.

Very nice! I built the same box for my 1 lane track. In hind site, I wish I would have made it smaller. With a 1 lane track I have tons of extra room. Painting was a nice touch too. I didn't do that with mine. I did line mine with some left over carpet, so the insides are nice and padded. birddog

Re: Pinewood Derby Dads

I think the contributors on DerbyTalk help new entrants to the sport understand that it is a parent/child project. DerbyTalk does this better than any other site I've seen. I usually tell my parents that the amount of contribution each boy does varies by age and maturity level. I really don't expect...

Re: District level Survey Monkey

Heres a question-should scouts that cross as Web 2 in Feb some to the district as Webs or open child? I am thinking the latter to pass the torch... Seth Our District rules specifically allow Webelo IIs who have crossed over into Boy Scouts to come to our District race and run as Webelo IIs. The Mid...

Re: District level Survey Monkey

Here is a tip I'll pass along for selecting a date. I learned this one the "hard way" this year. Our district PWD has been held on the first Saturday in April for at least the last 5 years (probably longer). This year, it happened to fall on Easter weekend. I didn't know that when I just r...

Re: An idea for the next iteration of BSA wheels

I've always felt it was very difficult to check for such material removal during inspection. We use inspection gauges, but those only catch mods that impact the diameter of the wheel or its width. Removing material on the inside of the wheel can only be inspected visually and even then it can get di...
