Re: Bang your head
Got called in to sub for another teacher, sorry. Per your recommendations, I repeated the experiment with the added weight. The wheel behind the DFW allowed one sheet to go within 1/16" of the inside edge of the wheel and a second sheet at about 1/8". This is with wheel face out. Reversed-...

Re: Bang your head
I used my wife's glass top range (yes it was cold!) for the paper test. I positioned the wheels with the hub against the axle head. Each allowed me to push one sheet to within ~ 1/16" inch of the inside edge of the wheel. Sheet 2 was ~1/16" less than that. My calipers are broken so I could...

Re: Bang your head
Sporty, I sent the pics yesterday. They should be there. Email me your address and I'll send you a handful of wheels. I have a pro outer hub tool and have tried it on an Awana wheel with less than spectacular results. Running the wheels inside out has been a thought, I've yet to engineer a way to ma...

Re: Bang your head
I raced that car last week. I actually had less steer (8" in 6') and it wobbled a bit so increased it to 12" in 6' and it went away, sat on the rail and ran correctly. It may have looked like 1 inch in 6 feet but it was 1 foot in 6 feet. I did leave out a step or two on the axle, after mod...

Bang your head
I have been banging my head on a wall for about 3 years now. So I'm asking for some help. I've been talking to Sporty a bit but in a multitude of counselors.... Here's my situation. I race on a Freedom track 30' race distance. My best time is 2.543 and I'm right there every year. Now the specs. Awan...

Re: What is this? Spacer next to DFW?
Instead of painting I've taken up wrapping my cars in vinyl that I get for free from a local sign shop. Quick and gives a slick surface if a little oil or graphite is applied.

Re: Awana wheel prep, questons
I have used micro and done them with a wax/Jig/oil process and I dont' find that adding the polish step did much. Last year I skipped polish and just did wax/Jig/oil and equalled my times from the previous year. If you have the time, polish away, however I don't think the gain will be significant. Y...

Re: Can't get any faster.
So I checked out the $40.00 AwanaOnes. They weight .017 oz less for the set than the balanced speed wheels I create. I don't think that's a significant enough difference to justify the dollars vs. the time I spend. I will upgrade my polish regime, and I'm intrigued by [no advertising for this vendor...

Re: Can't get any faster.
sounds a lot like my set up. I do freeze my wheels before I start on them (Actually just my garage at 10* f. is fine!)

Re: Can't get any faster.
All 4 weigh .2 oz since everything we do at awana is OZ. that's what I weight in. Stock wheels weigh .3 oz for a set so I have removed 1/3 of total weight. We made a set of very light wheels, less than .1oz and they were too light and did not roll well at all, they wanted to slide.

Tungsten
not to far from what my build is. I cannot afford to buy $40 wheels so I true my own and lighten. what are SGA axles?
Vid was fun but can't "tell much" other than it's fast. I may switch to Krytox next year, I do have the teflon lube around as I use it on my motorcycle chain.

Re: Can't get any faster.
Don't have a good pic but car is a low profile wedge with large portion removed behind the front axles (Think a fireball about the size of a superball) Com is 5/8" on one and 3/4" on the other car I built. Tungsten with some lead to get exact amount weight bias to DFW I'll work on a good p...

Can't get any faster.
We have hit the performance wall! 32' Freedom track, building Awana GP cars. With two teams using different methods the best time we have achieved is a 2.543 and most times fall in the 2.55x range. I have used RR, canted axles, lightened wheels by 30% even tried axles treated with tribocoat. We use ...
