Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

I didn't even consider the added tungsten was too high up on the car. We must have just gotten lucky last year as I drilled the extended axle holes with a drillpress and eyeball alignment. So, when we showed up and used our 2 free test runs and had wobble I should've tuned in more drift I guess. If ...

Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

Try and get to 3.6 ounces af added tungsten. This should allow you to place the weight low and near the axle. I'm a little gun shy now. Last year we had less aggressive COM and just tuned it to go straight on our kitchen table and it was straight and smooth on the track. I even drilled the extended...

Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

In a nutshell: harder steer-in when rail-riding and rear-wheel alignment (including slight negative camber on the rear wheels as allowed). Is negative camber on rear wheels of a straight runner faster too? How do I tune on a board and make sure I don't get the wobble at the track? (w...

Re: Fun project

I wanted to do that last year also. My thought was to cut the top of the block off leaving 3/8" on the bottom where the wheels would go. Then I would hollow out the top portion into the thinnest "U" shape I could make and pin and glue it back onto the bottom portion of the block. Once...

Re: Which block of wood looks better?

For strength and best finish, go with the tight grain block. The wood is softest between the grain lines, so sanding can make concave spots between the lines when they are spaced further apart. Doesn't lend itself to as nice of a finish. We turned a round missile shaped car this year and this is ex...

We used the Hob-E-Lub today and it was slower each race. 3.14, 3.15, 3.18 and 3.19. We had alignment issues though.

Re: How to eliminate wobble?

This is a mirror of our situation. Board-tuned the car then got to race today and were killed by the wobble. It's too bad a guy doesn't know he'll have the wobble until race day. Good info.

Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

Tell your boys thanks and my son thinks it's cool someone is seeing his car on the internet. Next year we'll tune for a good amount of drift. I'm still gonna have to research the rear wheel alignment more though. It's hard to tune at home on a board then have it prove amiss on race day. I wonder if ...

Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

Thanks guys. I'm proud of my boy. He turned that thing on the bench grinder, hollowed it out, painted it, polished hubs. Most importantly; he was also a very good sport about not placing and cheered his den mates on that were in the finals. I kind of feel like I let him down because I tuned it. It w...

Re: night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

:( Well, we didn't do very well. 3.14, 3.15, 3.18 and 3.19. Fastest car of the pack was 2.96 with a paper thin car. :? The missile was always ahead a full car length or better at bottom of incline then wobbled back and forth and never did better than 3rd in any heat race. What's the cure for the wob...

Re: night-before-race tuning ?

My COM is at 1 1/16" with rear axle moved back 3/8". I cut off a portion of the back of the block to mount weight. I'm trying to determne if I should just run her straight or if my slight positive camber will cause it to try to ride up on the center strip. http://i1126.photobucket.com/albu...

night-before-race tuning ? Race results added

Rear wheels ride to the nail head. RF wheel is off the track. DFW (LF) is very slightly set with positive camber. The wheel rides to the inside but wheel is flat on ground. Should I steer it toward rail or is this not enough positive camber. I can run it straight too. I narrowed front body at axle h...
