Re: Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

We have a Best Track, so with the way the lanes are designed, we can glue coins to the bottom of the cars in the middle of the bodies and it doesn't interfere. we go through alot of dimes at final weigh in. :) Plus, on impound day, we've always got parents who bring toold and drills to assist if the...

Basic starter template for new scouts and parents

Over the last couple of years, I've worked with a few of the new scouts and parents in coming up with ideas for their pinewood derby cars. As I'm sure we've all found out even from when we were newbies, sometimes you just don't know where to start or what to do. There are a tons of resources out the...

Re: Sons 2012 entry in out pack pinewood derby

The paintjob made sense to him and that's all that matters. Like I said, the kids did most of the work on their cars. So I'm proud of them even if they came in dead last. They did well enough to have their names announced a couple of times and they can be happy knowing that they did most of the car ...

I honestly didn't pick up on that.

Re: Daughters 2012 entry - the Atomic Wedge-E

Abigails car did pretty well. To be honest, until I get a copy of the official results, I think she either placed 4th or 7th. Since I was working the derby and had to take pictures of the top 3, I didn't get a chance to see the final results for everyone. She doesn't remember but she had a good time...

Re: Sons 2012 entry in out pack pinewood derby

Penguin Rider did really well in his rank class. Took 2nd but only missed out by very small margin. Took 10th in the finals. Did very well as all the races were close (even though there is speculation that some of the higher placing cars were worked on more by the dads than they should have been; we...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III

Cool! Thanks! I will definitely give that a try on next years car. Well, Derby came and went. My car did OK. Had a good wobble, though, which really hurt my chances. I think I just went way too aggressive on the weight placement. Used the slots so next year I'm drilling holes since I know my axles a...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III

Our Derby isn't until this Saturday, so this post isn't remotely related to it or my current car I have entered but I did go back and take a car body that I made but didn't use last year and experimented with painting it to see if I could do a better job. http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8227/test...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III

Ill give that a try. All cars are currently on small blocks turned upside down until I take them to turn in.

Re: Daughters 2012 entry - the Atomic Wedge-E

Last weight was 5.03 ounces. She went thick on the red paint. No worries, it'll get to weight. :D And yes, some people don't realize when they weight on a single digit scale and it shows 5.0 that it isn't exactly at 5.0 ounces. :D but that's why we are there with drills and glue and coins and other ...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III

http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/866/p1010049mz.jpg Well, here we go! We'll see if I can top last year. Pretty aggressive on weight. I think I screwed up on the raised wheel. It's just barely touching. Hope that doesn't throw it all off. But, we'll see how it goes. Just have to graphite it and tu...

http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/7376/p1010048wd.jpg Daughter's finished product. It's a tad over 5.0 ounces, but at official weigh in, I'll just trim off a bit of wood from underneath. :D Just have to graphite and then turn it in on Friday. Race isn't until the 24th so it'll be a couple of weeks...

Son's finished product. Weighs in at about 4.97 ounces.

Hope he does well. I at least hope he gets a trophy (other than participation) once before he cross's over to Boy Scouts.

Only thing left is to graphite before impound on Friday.
