Re: Daughters 2012 entry - the Atomic Wedge-E
For a cub scout event, it's borderline. Painting the actual underwear wedgie underneath may encourage some kids to joke or attempt it. Still have to take some things into consideration. You know how kids are. Fortunately, it'll be sibling open class (we're having a 14 and under class and 15 and olde...

Re: Daughters 2012 entry - the Atomic Wedge-E
Finally got the girl to finish up the rest of the car. I swear, you'd think I asked her to stab a kitten or something.
So, in that 5 minutes after 15 minutes of protest, she drew out the atomic symbol and painted some underwear on it.

Re: The Final Pack Pinewood Derby
If you made it a rail-rider to that side, would the potential extra weight that could be supported on that side assist movement of the car created by the rail-rider setup?

Re: The Final Pack Pinewood Derby
Very interesting talk about weighting to the DFW. As I'm very green on this (and learn visually) Here's a couple of models that I came up with. For example purposes, I'm just using a flat 1/4" model and 24 1/4" cubes (tungsten model) to visualize 4 ounces. Wheel base is standard but moved ...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III
Yeah, I probably should have done the yellow paint first. I screw that up every year. If I did this more than once a year I'd remember. And the weights are segmented lead bar. Got it from Derby Monkey's Ebay site. 1/8" thick, 5/8"x7/16" for each segment (1/4 ounce each segment). Once ...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III
http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/3549/p1010048q.jpg Finished with paint and clear coat. As I said, not the best paint job, but it's a paint job none-the-less. ;) And yes, sticker will go on but I'll do that the night before weigh-in Weight has been added. About 4.2 ounces total. I'm at 4.9 on my ...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III
Decided to stick with the same paint theme. Not the greatest job in the world, but no big deal. A few touch up spots then some clear coat and then glue the weights in.
As long as it performs better than it looks, I'm happy.

Re: Super DerBee Mk III
Paint has begun. One coat of primer and a coat of gloss black. Looks fairly decent considering the minimal coats I'm putting in on it. To be honest, I'm having a hard time deciding to make the main color yellow right now. May reverse it and go black with yellow stripes this year. http://img96.images...

Re: Super DerBee Mk III
Thanks for the tip! I can definitely trim down the back weight to 1.5 and put the rest in the slot right behind the front weights. It's exactly the width of the weights themselves so it'll be easy to trin and fit in it.

Super DerBee Mk III
Ok, I've posted my kids cars, time for me to post mine. Every year I use the same theme with paint job. It's modeled after the old Dodge Super Bee paint style. I always like the yellow and black so that's what I stick with. Here are Super Derbee Mk I and Mk II from previous years. http://img840.imag...
