Weight shapes...looking for suggestions...

There seems to be a plethora of weight shapes available..,zinc molds, lead wire, tungsten cubes, discs, cylinders, plates, spheres, powder, putty. I'm planning to purchase weights this year but am not certain which shape to buy. It seems each shape would have its own issues for integrating into the ...

Re: Lathing Wheel Interiors

MaxV - yes, i was refering to a lathe or milling machine. I don't have access to one (nor the funds to purchase one!) and thought the honing tool would be extremely easy to use and inexpensive. The honing arms are spring loaded and may compensate for drill runout (is that the correct term)?? there m...

Re: Lathing Wheel Interiors

Slightly off topic, but for those w/o a lathe, i wonder if a brake cylinder hone might work in a drill press?? thoughts?

Re: Whiskers and rail riding?

Suppose whiskers weren't allowed (though i don't see such exclusions in our rules), would it be advantageous to freeze the raised wheel to prevent energy loss due to spinning?

Re: Rail Riding - "How To Guide"

It can probably be found buried in another thread, but has the idea of setting a small diameter post of the utmost slippery material, from the bottom of the car, near the raised wheel (slightly in front), at the same height/depth of the wheel, to prevent the raised wheel from hitting the rail? It se...

Re: We Won! and something for the data starved

I'm a far cry from a data head, but i find one thing particularly interesting. On another graphite comparison post, PWE was tested against 7 other lubes, one being HEL. This testing of 10 runs showed about a 5.0 % decrease in time using PWE over HEL, 2.6763 vs 2.811, respectively. If we take your te...

yeah, but this stuff has been used successfully on Zircon Fuel Rods surrounded by Uranium pellets. During this application, it will not hinder the heat transfer of neutron flux. :D

grizzly has an inexpensive hobby lathe.

Any opinion on the versatility over an inexpensive drill press?

Re: List of Essential Tools and More?

We always used a square and plastic drafting triangles to get lines symetrical, etc For three years we've used a counter weight balance....a stick w/ a stack of quarters on one end. it's been very accurate. this year it was 0.07 oz under the official scale at registration. We drill two small holes i...

Re: Fastest Graphite Test, FINALLY!

Well, we glued the axle in place out of necessity, more than design!!

I was hoping the graphite to HEL switch wouldn't be a problem. Interesting that someone found the combination increased speed.

Thanks!!

Re: Fastest Graphite Test, FINALLY!

Thanks for the quick reply, Terry. I'm not sure if we are up for the task of dismantling and re-assembling. One rear axle is glued in place and one front axle is slightly bent to keep alignment. I'm afraid taking things apart would cause more problems. So my question has more to do with simply switc...

Re: Fastest Graphite Test, FINALLY!

ACK!!! we unexpectantly won our pack race the other weekend...to boot, won every individual heat too. We now qualify for the district race. Question: Have always used graphite. Not familiar w/ HeL. We won't be able to take the wheels off for cleaning. Would there be any problems switching from graph...
