Points vs time - actual results for discussion

Post by glaforge »

I post these partial results from yesterday’s race to compare/contrast time vs points. What place you feel these cars should end up in probably will depend on your personal bias.

There were 12 racers on a 4 lane track. PPN scheduling was used. Cars 5-8 were far enough behind in points and times that they are not presented here. When you see the same heat number under two different cars, that means they raced each other. For example Car A&B raced each in heat three even though it was car A's second race and Car B's first race.

Car A results

The 12-car 4-lane chart, a PPN category chart, is excellent for matching cars if
1. you are competing by time, or
2. you are selecting finalists for point competition.
It is less appropriate for direct point competition.

If you wish to determine final standing on points in one chart, the chart selection should have included one bye so that the chart is CPN instead of PPN. Then the comparison is between using times and points accuracy is meaningful.

Agreed, you must absolutely match the methods of scoring and scheduling (no big surprise-we used total time).

But, I still see other meaningful things for/against both points and total time and some that I hadn't expected. For example, car A was far less consistent than car B but still won on overall time...guess you can be more inconsistant if you are just plain faster.

Having a mildly bad race MAY have less an impact in time scoring than in place scoring....Note Car A's worst race happend in heat 20 when facing cars B&D (unexpected).

There are still others!!!
