District race scheduling?

Post by nosam116 »

We're thinking of running our district Pinewood Derby race in split shifts. We will have approximately 100 scouts/open division racers and the thought is to have Webelos and Bears run the first part, then have Wolf/Tigers in the second shift with the finals following.
Any opinions?
Of course, I realize some families will have an all day event, but we would be able to use two tracks and allow the scouts to be up closer to the action on the tracks. Where if we were to run four or five tracks the scouts would be required to sit in the stands of the gym.
I love to hear from everyone.
Thanks
Each day is a good race day!

Our district ran a two-track setup last year, and we're planning to do so again this year. Instead of running two groups simultaneously, each group will have their own dedicated time slot. These will all be run in the morning, and the finals will be run after a lunch break in the afternoon. This will allow a break for families with multiple sons, but also allow the focus to be on each boy.
