Sim/Statictics question: Heat Winner distrib?

Post by rdeis »

Hello, all. I have about 40 scouts racing on a 6 lane track with a timer.

Overall finish order is determined by time, but we are considering doing a little something for heat winners to keep each race interesting.

Our race order will be determined by an older software package the pack owns. I don't have my hands on it yet, but I expect it to use a PN or PPN so that at least each scout runs on each lane.

My questions are this:

Assuming a fair track, on average, how many different racers win at least one heat?

On average, How many repeat winners are there, and how many wins to they rack up?

What are the best/worst case numbers for most evenly distributed and most concentrated wins?

How does a lane bias (some parents think we have one) affect this distribution?
