Groved cut BSA axels....any good?

Post by M7 Racing »

I know there is a lot of debate regarding graphite and groved axels, however has anyone tried the BSA speed axels from ABC Pinewood Derby?

http://www.[no advertising for this vendor].com/axles.htm

I have a friend who bought them because he had trouble last year. His car was realy fast during the day then at the end of the day the last few races it slowed down. He says it is because he ran out of graphite. His thought is that the lubricant reservoir will hold extra graphite to last him throughout the day.

When I felt these axels it seems like the axel is polished but the reservoir is not. In fact, even though this reservoir is very shallow the edges going into it seem sharp where if enough presure is put on them it will tear up the bores. My thought is that these would be bad, especially for his rear tires (rear weighted car).

Any thoughts?
