Allignment... and 4 wheelers

Post by 2kids10horses »

Great posts on the 3 wheeler thread! :D

It got me thinking about our 4 wheeler. Our rules dictate 4 wheels touching.

Last year our car was tuned to have all 4 wheels touch, and we were able to equi-weight the two front wheels. That is, when you pushed down (gently) on the front of the car, neither wheel showed as dominant.

However, I did notice that the car was not as smooth on the track as it could have been, I had an off-balance wheel.

Anyway, I do have to have 4 wheels touching. BUT... should I have a 'dominant' wheel that bears most of the weight, and have that one aligned so that it would gently hug the rail? The 'non-dominant' front wheel would then act as a lifted wheel, but would, of course, impose a friction penalty.

Or, is it better to have the car equi-weight the two front wheels? (No dominant front wheel?)
