Finishing Touches - Finish

For those of you that finish your paint job with a coat of wax, do you have a preference that works best on your cars? This year we tried some Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax (liquid) and we did not seem to see any improvement on the finish or protecting the finish. We did use some plan Turtle Wax polishing compound in the paste form and it did protect better followed by the Tech Wax but it seemed to leave scratches. I'm wondering if there is something better out there. It seems like the paste works better than the liquid.
