How do you polish

Post by ohiofitter »

Hey let's face it we all have our ways of doing things...But let the cat out of the bag. (':D')

I start by removing all marks on the axles..

wet sand 1000 grit 10 seconds

wet sand 1500 grit 15 seconds

wet sand 2000 grit 20 seconds

Move to pearl drop tooth paste on a chamois 30 seconds.

and finish with Mothers mag aluminum till residue disappears then set them in denatured alcohol to clean

and finally wipe of with a moist towelette

My method is probably a bit odd but works well and is fast.

Once filing is done I use a diamond impregnated rubber wheel that I section to the width of area needing polishing. Then hold it with a forceps for a few seconds...

Next I use another polishing wheel

Followed by a soft Robinson bristel brush in a rotary handpiece combined with Motloid grey, then green polishing compound

Lastly it is high shined with a soft muslin wheel in a rotary with jewelers rouge.

Then cleaned with ammoniated cleaner to remove any traces of polishing compound.

Nice mirror like finish.
