Hi Nick,
Please allow me to give you some advice.
You should never ask a designer to gift you their matrix.

Sorry if my first comment rubbed you the wrong way. That wasn't my intent. I didn't think things were being un-cordial. I kind of assumed with the link to the funny youtube clip you were just messing around.

I was being serious though about the other link I posted about the interchangeable car kits and building off of this kit design that you shared here. With all the different designs you're cranking out I think you could make a decent business out of it. You already got a pretty good start with the Puma weights. Get the Laserman Etsy store going ;)

You ever watch The Ben Heck Show? He does a lot of CNC and laser design modding mainly for electronics though. One of the materials he uses a lot when CNCing parts is Sintra, a PVC rigid foam. You can't laser cut with it but it looks like an interesting material to possibly substitute for balsa. Not sure if it is rigid to use for a full car body.

Sorry about that Sporty,
Nick and I are used to rough-housing over at the other playground so we have to re-learn how to behave in public.
I always bristle when asked not for the golden egg but the goose that laid them.

Sintra seems ok but a bit dense for PWD.
Also the fact that it should not be laser cut always makes me shy to it.
Gatorboard is a material that I would like to make a car from though.

Oh. Yes. It was Randy.

Sorry Randy.

Is that the same Randy that invented the GPRM software?

Well, this car is coming along. It is hard to see a difference but I spent a couple of hours sanding it, and it still needs a bunch more.

It probably wants a bit more flare at the fenders too.

I hear that it is great kite flying weather out in Minnesota this time of year!

That is correct.

I like your design. Is this going to be a straight runner or are you cambering the wheels?

Hi Joe,
I will let you know when I get the Tungsten Puma Weights.. Thank you for them.

How would the gator board cut useing your laser cutter? (would it melt the polystyrene foam core.)
I know that it has a soild wood fiber for added strength and that it's the stongest foam board available
that is paintable.. and can be some what pricey as well.
Now that would be something different to see used on Pinewood derby cars as well.

I can't tell you what to do with your car..
Sporty, asked if you were going to paint it..
Please don't paint it !
It look's really good just the way it is by getting to see all the craftsmanship..
that went into the wood work & design.

Whoda.

Thanks Randy!

I like your software! I am looking forward to the one you just finished.

Although it is difficult to tell from these photos, the car is drilled with cambered axle holes.

Don't worry Whoda

I never paint my cars. I believe in staying true to the material.

The Gatorboard is almost like regular Foamcore but with Bristol board instead of thin paper on the outsides.

It cuts like butter.

The foam gets eaten away a little from the laser but works fine.

Thanks fellas,
Joe

So I wanted to tighten up the gaps around the wheels with the last layer of wood.

At the same time I started to consider where I should put the remaining 1.5 oz

In the adult racing leagues it is en vogue to "bias" the weight towards the DFW side.

An idea is forming in my head
