I'm seeing nickel plated axles on the market.
1) Can a nickel plated axle be bent at 5 degrees for the DFW or does the plating crack at the bend?
2) How do you polish nickel axles? Do you just skip the sandpaper and use the final polish?
3) Is the plating durable?
4) Would you have to sand off the nickel finish from the head in order to slot it?

Re: Nickel plated axle
Nickel plated axles can be polished/bent/slotted just like other axles. The nickel plating is just a little more durable than the typical zinc-plated axles. It is a bit harder and shines up better.
Re: Nickel plated axle
Thanks. To clarify, do they need sanding as with stock axles (400 on up to 12,000 grit) then final polish or just do the final polish? They work OK with oil too?MaxV wrote:Nickel plated axles can be polished/bent/slotted just like other axles. The nickel plating is just a little more durable than the typical zinc-plated axles. Re: Nickel plated axle
You can certainly polish them. Generally you would start at about 1500 grit. Oil would work fine.
