Also for staging you want to set it close to the rail it is going to ride against. Just leave a sliver of space. Having it staged to the opposite side actually ends up increasing the distance the car travels from start to finish. One aspect of rail riding is making as straight a line as possible between two points. The cars that don't rail ride not only have a higher chance of banging into the rail multiple times but also travel in a wavy line down the track.
