Sonic Blue Drag Racing Rig!

Post by whodathunkit »

Thought I'd try something new as far as a fun design.

I could use some thoughts on the design from you DerbyTalkers...
On this 25oz -19 in - 8 wheeled Drag Race Rig.

I'm 10oz light on makeing the max weight with the rear wheels on the truck..
any ideas on where to place the rest of the weight and about the COG?

Depends on which wheels are touching, I think. More info!

Very cool! I look forward to seeing these big rigs in person at Mid-America.

Thanks' Stan & Randy.

 my bad on the 10oz! (don't know why I said 10oz.. 6oz more is more like it!)

With the 6 wheels installed on the rear..
I'll be looking at adding 6oz more to make the 25oz total.

I have the room for installing some tungsten plates under the plate for wing at the frame.
I'll have to notch out the bottom of the wing plate for them.

Right now as is in the photos:
The COG is at 6 in- from the back axle on this 19 in long frame truck.
By design I set it up to run on 3 wheels only..
The weight may be to much of a load on the back axles but I belive in takeing a chance
and trying something fun for discovery.

If it don't work out.. well at least I can say it was cool to try out the design.

Well, this is just an educated guess. I'd shoot for about 0.8 or 0.9 oz on the DFW. If you use the utility at http://www.stanpope.net/cmcomput.htm#Section1, you can compute exactly where to add the additional ballast. Had you told me your current weight distribution, I'd plug the values in. I've got a suspicion that getting 0.8 oz on the front might not be possible using the rear-most wheels. If that is true, then you may be better off using the middle rear wheels intead of the rear-most! Since you have probably already committed to using the rear-most wheels, then if you can't get the DFW weight down, plan for only slight toe-in for the DFW.

Yes the rear wheels are committed to be use.. Thanks for the tip on useing the middle wheels.
I will have to keep that in mind for the next truck build.

I'll give the DFW some very slight tow.. Thanks' Stan.

I'd think that the rear wheels would be the best, but keeping the DFW weight light is pretty important. That BIG cab on the front will make it difficult to counter its weight by placing ballast behind the rear wheels! You might even have to go with the front pair ... dunno!

Keep in mind that this is all "informed guesswork." I've never tried to run one like that! :)

Well Stan,
Right now the cog is at 5in from the rear axle..
With (1lb-1.3oz on the rears)& the DFW is at 7.6oz

Well I haven't either but thought it would be fun to try it.
Thanks Stan.

Whoda.
