The Hershey's chocolate bar car in 15 pic's or less!

( Speedster this Hershey's bar car is being built all in good fun just for you! )

First you'll need a kit and a king size Hershey's candy bar wrapper. ( And disregard the chocolate smudges seen on the wood !)

For this I will be cutting the block to about a 1/4" thick or more.. & drilling the axle holes.. then routeing out weight pockets.

And a quick run on the belt sander to bull nose the front end.
Next weight pockets routed out!

Then some cut outs on the scroll saw to drop more wood weight.

And then draw out the bite marks in the chocolate bar and cut out.

A little splash of brown paint on the front end and fitting of the wrapper.

And a quick adhesive spray to the wrapper and setting of glue.. and applied to the frame.

Weight's, wheels & axles.

And speedster.. that little splash of brown paint is not even dry yet..How did i do for speed at putting this car together ?

Nice job!

Years ago, I build a Hershey bar car, but that was back when Hershey bars came wrapped in foil, with the paper label wrapped around that.

I LOVE IT !!!
Never, ever did I think of having a chunk removed from the bar. I think you might have started something. It's the Best of both worlds. It will make people smile and it's designed for speed.

The speed with which you build things is astounding.

Darin I remember those day as well with the foil and paper wrapper!
It would of been nice if i could have used a vintage candy bar wrapper for the car.
Maybe some would enjoy seeing how there favorite candy bar wrappers evolved over the decades that can be seen in the link below.

Any chance of reposting or sharing the photos of this one? I found some of them on a google search which lead me here, but they are listed as "no longer available" on this thread. I wanted some step-by-step so my son can help me out as much as possible. Please let me know! Thanks!

Sorry , I haven't been on DT much here lately!
I almost missed seeing you post about the pic's.. I used to use tiny pic to host the images there no longer hosting images now.
So a lot of my photos are gone on a lot of the topics I have posted in the past.

I have re -loaded the images using Imgur to the car build topic above for you to see.
However you'll have to click on the image link. to open them up in Imgur.

keep in mind that I did not go into grate detail at the time ..while building this Hershey Chocolate bar for Speedster.
And that I just built it really quick.. and that I drilled axle holes for the car at the time .
However if your rules say that the axle slots must be used :
You can still build this car with them.. it will be tricky to not to brake out the back axle slot.. while routing out for the weight pockets.

For the weight pockets:
I routed them out using a laminate trimming router & a straight bit 7 mm 1/4". To a 1/4" deep for tungsten cube weights.
The over all thickness of the car body is just over a 1/4" thick.. by a 1/6" or so on.
Just enough to leave some wood topside of the weight pocket 's .. so that the weights can be glued in.

For gluing the Hershey's candy bar wrapper to the car:
I used.. 3M super 77 adhesive spray.. spayed to the back side of the wrapper ( only!) then placed it onto the car.
Laying it down on the top side of the car first.. then wrapping the sided's and back end down .
( Note: My wrapping job was not so hot at the time i had lots of wrinkles in the wrapper! ;) )
To smooth out the wrapper you can use old credit card .. for the air bubbles .. a needle can be used to poke a hole in the wrapper to let the trapped air out.
( Just don't poke a hole in the wrapper where your open holes are in your car body!)

I used and x-acto knife to trim off the excess of the wrapper flush with the bottom side of the car.
The bottom side of car was not wrapped at all..
I use chrome HAVC tape or clear packing tape to cover the open holes and weight pockets bottom side of the car.

Best Of Luck To You Guy's!
I hope the image's will help you and your son to build your very own Hershey's Chocolate bar car.

Whoda.
