The assumption of normalcy in the t-test can be solved by using a non-parametric test. That part is easy.

The real question is once you have found a "slow" lane what can you do to fix it and should you fix it?

I would say, that if it can be fixed easily.

for example:

track not leveled properly.
Starting gate peg off from the rest.
Finish line not lined up or off some.
dirty track lane.

Those mentioned should be able to be fixed without great difficulty.

If it is something like:

warped track surface,
improper fit or badly placed rail guide
dented, dinged track on one lane.

some of these could be fixed, but with more effort and more work and some like the warped track is not so easily fixed.

If the issue is bad enough or can not be fixed, it may be to adjust how the race is ran to be fair to everyone racing.

not using that lane, to ensuring all cars competing against one another during a heat, all race on that lane.

Sporty
