Track length

Post by St_Louis_Racer »

To avoid having to measure, does anybody know the true track length of a 42' Best with a Fast track timer using the smallest of the 3 sets of predrilled holes for the timer.

Trying to get close to accurate MPH in Grand Prix software.

From Doc Jobe's Lecture 20, the curved section is 41.0". On the Best Track I have measured, the smallest set of holes is 12.0" from the end. FYI--The large hole is 10", second hole is 11", and the smallest hole is 12" from the end.

One measurement is a bit of a guesstimate-the starting pin. This is not keyed in any way for assembly, so it could vary a bit. If you follow the manual, the location will be about 7.5" from the top of the track.

So,
7' * 5 sections + 41" = 461"

minus the locations of the start gate and finish hole

461" - 7.5" - 12" = 441.5"

461" - 7.5" - 12" = 441.5"
I checked the distance from the tallest part of the track to the start gate pin when I got home. Assuming the start pin is located as far to the rear as possible and the measurement is 7.75".

So the distance is actually

461" - 7.75" - 12" = 441.25"

Hey guys, the scale speed shown in GPRM is just for fun! If you are off by a few inches, will that really matter? The scale speeds have no bearing on the standings. They are just something cool to see.

A 42 foot Best Track from starting pins to the finish sensors is 37 feet.

But you allow four significant digits in entering the track length in GPRM!!!! I think you allow four significant digits because you want your users to take advantage of it!!!!!

So, for those wanted to USE THE FEATURE THAT RANDY PROVIDES TO ITS FIRST, BEST USE:

To the first set of holes, the distance is
441.25"/12"/foot = 36.77'

To the second set of holes, the distance is
442.25"/12"/foot = 36.85'

To the second set of holes, the distance is
443.25"/12"/foot = 36.94'

And, keep in mind, your mileage may vary!!!!!
