Re: Track selection

Post by TCON »

After a Monday full of computer and business gliches, I join
you racing fans (which you know is short for fanatic) to see
if our combined intelligence can make a chunk of wood on
wheels, run down hill and cause people to cheer and pray
more.
You will get to know me further, as I post intelligent, and not
so intelligent, info on this exciting new forum.
I am commander of an AWANA youth club, here in SC and,
hopefully the GP Racedirector for many years to come. My
expertise, in my opinion, is in design and fabrication of
metal, wood and especially fiberglass. I have been deemed
a "tooling" expert with over 40 years of experience in
fiberglass fabrication. I know coatings and their application
techniques, both airdried and exothermic. Engineering at
Duke U. has not helped me in GP. Nothing beats trial and error.
My son builds graphite-fiber monocot bodies for Daytona/
Sebring type racecars (one-half million a pop). He's their
tooling person and is a kid in a candystore. I trained him and,
together, we come up with some cool stuff. My goal is to mold a track,
next year. Years ago I tooled up a very large waterpark slide
system with a successful joining, indexing system that would
work in track assembly.
I value the simplistic approach, allowing the average craftsman
the opportunity of "do-it-yerself". I, however, have a complete
woodworking, machine, wire-welding repair and fabrication
shop. Sometimes I forget that everyone doesn't have access
to tools, so, keep me focused.
Well, my engine's started...........how about your's?

Glad you made it in despite the computer problems. I want to officially welcome you to Derby Talk and as the moderator for this forum. I believe your experience in fabrication will be a great help to those building, rehabbing, finishing or buying tracks. I also think your experience as an Awana Commander and race coordinator will be helpful as well.
