I am looking for suggestions on a starting mechansim for a test track/board. I say test track/board as for my immediate need I am going to build a two lane 8' board (MDF board with 1/4 x 1 1/2" poplar rails). This will be to look at alignment characteristics and for the kiddies to race two cars at a time (granted only over 8'). Eventually I will add sections to make this a longer track.

Anyway - I have see a couple low budget options for a starting gate - the one with a board and a hinge with rubber bands detailed here, and the other with the PVC pipe and rubber bands pictured here. Any suggestions? I also welcome any other suggestions or links to building a test track/board. Thanks.

If you plan to keep it and extend, I do not reco MDF.

hmm - many links not working or the files will not display. Darin's is the only one I had luck with.
