Yes, sorry I can't help you with the question of vertical storage. Piantedosi always recommended that the track "should be stored flat and level" in its carton, and most people (including us) likely do not deviate from that.

Thanks for the link. The pictures look exactly like our track, so I guess that's what we have. :) The instructions have long since been lost, but they fit our track. I guess the answer is it needs to be stored flat.

For what it's worth, I did some Internet searching for "wood storage" as opposed to "wooden pinewood derby track storage" and opinions are mixed. It seems like a "less filling / tastes great" sort of argument. Reading the manual (pdf) you linked answered my questions, and gives me the rational to back that decision up to the rest of the pack, so that's perfect. Thanks.
