Garrett's District Winning Car

Post by Gavin Chafin »

Here's Garrett's car. Not a great picture, but it's all I have for now (hope this works):

Congrats again to you and Garrett!
Clean looking car -- nice looking boy -- is that you in the white sweatshirt? Doesn't look like your avatar without the glasses...

A big well done!!! Has anyone ever taken a poll as to the number of trophies one by members of this forum? Just curious.

Thats great Gavin car does look good. Why does it always seem like the boys want red cars?

Hey Sssnake, that would be an interesting poll. But what would you do with people like Stan who have helped so many boys to a trophy? Or do you mean a place where people can post what their boys did this year? I know we did well in the past, but thanks to the help of fellow Pineheads, I feel we are better prepared this year than ever before. Can't wait till March!

One thing I wanted to add is that Garrett and I didn't finish the car until days before Districts. And, the night before we raced the car for the first time on a makeshift track in my brother's garage. Accordingly, we didn't have time to visit the hobby store to get decals in time for the big race. It's rather plain looking (it was the simplest looking at Districts), but I'll trade speed for looks any day. What's funny is that I'll bet a bunch of people will think that I skipped the decals in an attempt to gain better aerodynamics. This year, many of the cars copied the high nose design of last year's District winner. I wonder how many people will skip decals next year ;) We may have started an unintentional, regrettable trend.

Gavin, slick looking piece, do you have to use the stock axel slots?

Congrats to both Garrett and Dad! Don't you have pack races before district? If so, why didn't your car get finished before districts? Repair/improvements?

Yes. We must use the slots provided in the block of wood.

We only got second in the pack. And we lost by at least half a car length. I've been having some alignment problems this year. I decided to start over and build a new car since Districts doesn't disallow it. Turned out to be a good choice.

In my experience, the boys all seem to want whatever color of spray paint we have the least of at the workshops... ;-)

Don't you know that red cars run faster? At least they give the illusion of it!
