It is minwax polyurethane spray over duplicolor.
The minwax doesn't bond with the paint it just raps it.
It can be tricky to work with but it is worth it.
If for some reason it doesn't turn out right you can let it set
up then take a fairly tacky tape and remove it by pressing the
tape down then pulling it off quickly without hurting the paint
under it.

How about spraying the car with a mold release agent and then building up a thick shell of the polyurethane? It would be sweet to have a clear car.
If no one is questioning whether our cars are legal, I'm not working hard enough at interpreting the rules.

Looks really nice. Can you report how much weight this process adds to the body, sarge?

Do you mind saying which Minwax that is?

Satin, semi-gloss, the fast drying?
That is simply gorgeous.

We use the minwax clear gloss.
It says it is fast drying but it will need to dry
atleast 24 hours before you can handle it.
As far as the weight goes we don't worry about that.
Its not enough to make a big difference.

How hard does it dry? Is it gummy at all or is it like fiberglass resin when it's fully cured?

It dries hard and is more scratch resistant than a regular clear coat.
I know it looks like a very thick coating but its really not that thick.
Its only as thick as a peace of thin cellophane.
Problems with chipping can happen if it is banged around and handled ruffly
because it is not bonded to the base coat.

That's simply amazing. What is the flame? decal or paint? How much weight do you need to put in that to make it 5oz?

The flame was made by cutting a stencil out of frisket paper and spray painted with duplicolor metalspecks.
The color is burnt copper.I'm not shore how much lead we put in it. I would say about 4ozs

Its done! And its fast!
I told the cub master he may want to keep a fire extinguisher on
hand in case the track catches fire  .
We will see on the 13th.
