Hi Sporty,

No.. but i've been thinking of doing that to push the Cog, back close to 3/4!
It's tricky to align a car useing vintage wheels and 8 penny nail axels!
I had lots of fun with the kid's trying to speed this car up.. to bad we dident use lube on it.
we just wanted to see what it would do.. and wow what a job it done.

 Are the vintage-style cars longer than 7 inches after the protruding front wheels are installed?

Hello FatSebastian, Good to hear back from you!

Yes 7 3/8 overall lenth! Have you seen the stats from Wirl that this car ran there on April 17,2010?
It was some what slower there! avg time 3.6747 fastest run was 3.573s
Ran it there also with no lube.. in the open class.
The kids told me to race it there for them so i did my best for them!

Hay FS, Here is something i want you to look at!
this is a pinewood derby wheel that has stumped me cold in my tracks as a collector
it look's to be a vintage Batacrafts or Cmi wheel!
It also has mold numbers in the wheel but no where do i see the
Cmi markings! the tread is somewhat wider, and it's also 1 1/4 in diameter plastic!
It also has a hub to it! Can you help me with this wheel!
Image
I haven't a clue and i'm at a loss with it!

ok...FS what are you up to now you stumped me with your? yah got me good!!!! (7in) 3/8 out?

:idk: Sorry, not my area of familiarity. I might suggest you start a new topic over in the General Car/Truck Racer Topics forum to give it better visibility? Perhaps some derby vendor(s) may have a clue, since they are often exposed to lots of different types of cars, as well as different organizations that do woodcar racing (not just BSA)...

All BSA rules we have ever raced under required the car be 7" or less in length, although according to this page, 7 3/8" seems to be an original specification. So yes, I was wondering if a vintage style car might be legal to race with its protruding front wheels (never the fact that wheels are susceptible to being damaged or misaligned!) in a modern race.

An interesting off-season topic might be how the BSA kit rules (rules in the box) and the kit contents (wheels, axles, blocks) have changed over time, and approximately when they changed. Whoda, if you can contribute to such a discussion as a memorabilia collector, maybe you could start a new topic over in the General Topics forum? :eager:

You'll see photos posted in all the fora. The Car & Semi-Truck Photos forum (this forum) is mainly to "show off your cool vehicle designs and track burning speedsters!" You gotta have pictures for that; hence its name.

I Love this stuff.
I wasn't aware "Best" track was building tracks back then. That 1st track looks like an Incline. I wonder when the 1st Circular Arc track was introduced ?
I received some treasures at a workshop yesterday. Be talking to Ya, Whoda.

Speedster, the very first fully aluminum Pinewood Derby track by Best Track.
Or SMR Enterprises Was shipped out In August of 2002.
Or are you talking about the Beta Crafts track plating for the Challenger track?

And did you have to pull up this old topic ? (Thanks Speedster) or should I type it like i use to Speedsteer.. naw! :paperbag:

Speedster i'd be happy to help out with any thing vintage PWD if i can.

Just like FS helped me out getting started here on DT.

Yes, I had to pull up this old topic because of our workshop yesterday. I've lived the last 30 years of the derby so I'm familiar with what has happened since 1985. What I'm really interested in is the 1st 30 years, especially who it was that gave the 1st trophy for a "Best Design". OK, I'm kidding. A lot of what I want to know is probably in the search function. You know where it all is and you've got it in front of you. Who has written the most complete book on the derby from 1953 to 2016? I'd like to see you write a book, lots of pictures. There 's lots of folks still alive that have stories and will contribute. I'd like to buy your 1st book. I'll give you an extra $10.00 if you'll sign it for me.
Please check your email. Thank you.
