Rolex GT Meant to be.

Post by whodathunkit »

In Maximum Velocity's Pinewood Derby Times News Letter
Volume 6, Issue 5 Nov 29, 2006. (In The Car Showcase)

I was intrigued: By the car photo submitted by
Xtreme kidz: Keith & Joseph Wengerd.

I guess you could say it was this Rolex GT style car that caught my eye!
The car had the shape and paint scheme I really took a liking to &
I knew I had to try and make this car for my self.
The only thing is: It would have been more fun for me to build this car
with a son..Like most of you Fathers do with your kids.

At the time I tryed to build this car the Pinewood Derby was new to me.
And little did I know about this event and how very fun it would be to spend
the day with a child racing them down a track.
As I recall:
This car was built in my second year & my Paint job also bubbled when i spayed the clear coat on it.
Apparenty it was meant to be in my second year & round of racing.
It turned out better then my first also!

no worries. the forum is a bit slow right now and my days coming here will be less and less. I only look to work with my son on one more car in the fall for his last scout race, then onto what the future brings.

Perhaps finish the darn kayak we started building and no soap box derby racing this year, money is a issue, only working part time. sure hope things get better in our area.

I hope to be around some in the fall to help people here, but its you younger or newer folks who will lead the way int he next few years here !

Awesome job on the car. I am the one whose car you copied. I saw this a while back but couldn't log in to respond and just came across it again. I am getting the urge to build another one and run it in an adult race somewhere. I copied this design from a guy that was building cars to sell on ebay. He said he used plastic models to copy and he was a professional car painter, so his cars were flawless, unlike mine! How did you or your child do in the race? Does it run as good as it looks? Again, good job!

Hi Kwengerd,

So you are the one whos car I copied.. Man this is cool to be talking to you.
Back when I build the car pwd was new to me and I really like the looks of your car.
I don't have kids of my own so the car was build for an adult race it did ok for me back then.

That's cool. I built that one in about 2007 I think. I'm not sure, but it was the second one I built. It came in 2nd place in the race even though it was faster than the one I built the previous year. I have a blast doing this which is why I want to find an outlet where I can race myself. I can't remember how to post pics here, lol, but I'll put some up of the original car and of the others that I have done.
