A sneak peek at the 28 Ford Woodie Wagon.

Post by whodathunkit »

After seeing the Woodie Wagon made by Pinewood Topia. (Topic newest pinewood project for 2010)
I thought to myself why not try to make one this Labor Day weekend.
Well here is a sneak peek at the 1928 ford woodie station wagon I've been laboring on this weekend.

Image

For this build I will be useing all wood.. as the natural weight as well & a few Details as well.
You all know how.. ballboy & FS, asked about the steering wheel and what was under the hood.
In my last posting?
Well befor I put the top on the woodie wagon.. Hope you'll like this.

With the steering wheel for this one..

All made from wood.. for this woodie.

Side views:
1/8 in. Baltic Birch Plywood was used to make the side panels.

What's it weigh so far as all natural wood weight?

Happy Labor Day every one.
And hope you like the looks of the 28 woodie wagon.

Thank you Darin,

I wish now that I would of left the hood un-glued
Because I could of packed a motor in it also.. wish now I would have.
But the more I think about it.. it would of been cool to do a cut away of the hood that looks
like flames around the motor also.

Kinda like this one has.

Funny how you don't think of things like this intell after the build is done.

Glad you like the looks of the 28 Ford Woodie wagon.
It was a fun build useing paints and wood stains to get it looking like the real one in the photos above.

whoda, you always build such nice stuff...a real craftsman.
how many little wooden cars you got sitting around your house now?
you seem to turn them out at a rapid pace.
If you don't take your fun seriously, who will?

That is one fine car. I was wanting to make a woody, because it is a wood car made to look like a woody. Maybe someday.

Another Whoda fine automobile - pinewood remake. Great job, Mark.

Scubersteve, I have alot off them.. I can't help myself I enjoy makeing them when I can.
Alot of the cars or trucks I have made are put on display at my local Scout shop in Liberal KS.
The store owner: say's the kid's and parents enjoy seeing them and alot of the kids end up stoping
back by with the cars thay have made to show also. But the cars I truely enjoy seeing on display are made by the kids.

Spray paints: Gloss black & Navajo white. And Testers model paints
Woodstain: Minwax Gunstock 231.

Someday I'll have to try and do up the inter fenders to look like the real ones do.

Whoda.

Whodathunkit,

An extreme amount of detail on this 1928 Ford Woodie Wagon! I can only imagine the amount of time to research, construct, and paint a car like this would be several hours.

Thanks Tom,

I did put some detail into it. But not as much detail as i have been on this one.
I liked the looks of you're inter fenders details on that car so much..
I just had to try and do some on a pickup truck.
Guess you could say that someday came to soon.

You know how the kids like the Hot Wheels builds?

Well I've been working on a Muscle Machines build.. trying to build that 1929 Ford Truck..
By my user name, Guess on here it's called an Avatar.. or something like that.
Well anyway heres a sneek peek at that build as well.
Couldn't tell you how many hours i've put into this build just that I've,
been takeing my time on this one.

I'm really trying to do my best on the details.
What do you think is it looking ok so far..(?)
I'm hopeing that I can do up that big block motor for this truck build as well.

Mark,

The 1929 Muscle Machine 1929 Ford Truck is a nice build. Some of the cars and trucks that I am currently constructing have days of research prior to cutting the first piece of wood. One car that we are working on is from the mid 50's, a British Sports car. I started research for this project by going to a vintage car gaterhing, viewed photos on the internet, purchased a book and proceed with hand skecthes. Then the car was cut-out. After viewing the first car revisions were made to the template for a second car. I hope to start carving next week.

Tom,

I hope you will share a sneak peek of that mid 50's British sports car build also.

You know i can only think of several British cars that used fenders over the front wheels.
Kinda like Scrbersteves car.. the Red Bull Indy car.
Let me see. a 1952 Allard j2 is one it used a ford based rear end and a v8.
Some 1930's models: A jeep looking car called the Austin Seven.
And a Bently 4 1/2 Litre Supercharged, Or the Invicta S-Type.
1939 model HRG 1100/1500 vintage body style.
1929 MG M-Type Midget.
All used this fender style in some way or nother over the front wheels.

Mark,

You have listed a good selection of cars. These photos are of a Triumph TR series car from a recent British car show and a Triumph Heritage event during the Spring. I believe the Blue car is an early model TR 2 and the Green car is a TR 3. I anticipate having some photos of the car in progress.

Tom,

Those are some cool looking cars.. I hope you'll share some photos of the build.
It looks like these cars are going to be a really fun build as well.
I don't get to see cars like these here in Oklahoma panhandle
inless there on a trailor headed somewhere up state for a car show.
I can't wait to see how the cars turn out, Good luck to you on getting them built.

Mark.
