Post by xanthrum »

Here is our Fleet of cars for the 2014 Pinewood Derby Season... Each of the Boys won 1st in each of their dens, and then 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall for the Pack, Our little guy took 1st in the Kids Division - and we took 1st and 2nd in the Adult Division. -- On to districts - lots of little tweaking and tuning to do before Districts and Mid America Pinewood Derby.

Congrats on the wins! Does anyone else in the Pack dare challenge 'Team Dawes' on speed these days?!

Looking forward to the Mid-America this year.

Very impressive Greg. I am trying to line up the cars with the photo. I get who has Thomas (bust by the Thomas t-shirt), the Tiger is for the Tiger and the red and black are for the Webelos (twins?). I see moms.

So the blue and the natural wood are yours for different divisions?

All very nice. Looks like you run on a 42 foot best track...what kind of times were you running?

Great De-Duction on who's cars are who's...

In regards to our times... we need to do a bit more tweaking and tuning and I think we need to find a little bit more speed... here is the average composite time for each of the cars...

Henry (Kids Car) - 2.9750 - Avg Prelim Time
Mom Car - 2.9832 - Avg Prelim Time
Blue Tiger Car (mine) - 2.9607 Avg Prelim Time
Solid Oak Car (mine) - 2.9881 Avg Prelim Time

John (Warriors - Red Car) - Prelim = 2.9875 / Finals = 2.9831
Will (Flames - Black Car) - Prelim = 2.9743 / Finals = 2.9820
Chase (Tigers - Silver Car) - Prelim = 2.9873 / Finals = 2.9829

I think with a little tunning and a few modifications we can get all cars running in the 2.96 to 2.97 range...

Impressive times for those Dawes cars. I know one cannot compare one track to another but my son ran a 2.969 on a 42 foot best track with stock parts. For the mid American I plan to upgrade components as the rules allow see if we can squeeze out a bit more speed. My very cool looking fender car (in my opinion) was slow so I am building a new one for mid-America.
Thanks for the details Greg!

Awesome looking (and performing) cars. Greg job Dawes family! I'm looking forward to mid-america this year as well!

We just finished our pack race this year and our times on a 42' best track couldn't touch those.

We averaged 3.02x. Not sure if our track setup was a bit slower this year as in past years we've been under 3 seconds, but not this year.

It is amazing how times can change from set up to set up - of even the same track -- I looked at all the results and came to the conclusion we have to find some more speed... to get where we need to be... it could have been the set up of the track -- but I am comfortable when a graphite car can rip off a 2.95xx time... and average 2.96xx... seems like we have a little ways to go. Today our New Best Track was shipped to my home... once I get it all constructed and set up it will be very interesting to see how time compare.

Just like to see how people approach weighting and how much cars are hollowed out.
