Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The Green Machine
Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The Green Machine
I have been sneaking time here and there to work on my mid-America build. Here are some of the photos. The kids are using their car with some modifications but I needed a new one.
The frame. My lightest and most fragile yet:
Veneer added. (could not get the Revell sticker off)
Small fenders this time. Little tougher to shape being so small:
Little primer:
Black for the fenders, body is taped off:
Little green. Love this color. Testors Ice Lime:
Few pinstripes (Thanks to Speedster!)
Finished:
What do you think? Should be able to pick it out even if the live video feed is blurry!

Dood..
That is one fine lookin' shamrock ya got there. I'm impressed. You've really come a long way with your fender work too. The green paint is definitely a keeper.
That looks like more than 1/16" on your DFW side. Is it?
You using a big forstner bit to drill your holes in the car body?
Nice work. Really.

Scrollsawer,
Yeah I clipped off a bit too much with the bandsaw. Closer to 1/8th and 1/16. How wide is the inside rail? Hopefully less than 1 5/8th. I did use a 1 1/8 fornster bit to cut out the inside. I only have a bandsaw and cannot do inside cuts so it's the neatest way for me to reduce weight. Tried cutting a rail car with the Dremel cutting tool and it was sloppy.
I like the results. Just hope it's fast. My last fender car was slower than both my kids cars but it looked cool. We shall see. Glad you like it.

That's a heck of a build! BTW we're running tomorrow. If you're interested in being in the open race let me know tonight.

That looks awesome. Very, very nice! I'm a fan of the lime ice as well. This is my car from this year's pack race.
BTW, did you use the Testors lacquer clear coat? If not, I highly recommend it. Just be careful to let it dry for a few hours. It will be dry to the touch but soft for a few hours before firming up. Next time we won't wait until the night before the race to paint, but it was the only time it was dry and warm enough to do it due to my travel schedule.

Speedster its 4 3/4. Needed room for the 1 in front fenders. COM of 1/2. 3 wheel RR. Setting drift at 4 in over 4 feet. What's the wheelbase on that little beauty?
Who knew how cool Lime Ice would be. Got it on a whim for my son who turned it down. That looks awesome. Very, very nice! I'm a fan of the lime ice as well.
I used Rustoleum enamel clear coat. Typically use lacquer clear over lacquer paint only.
Thanks all,

Wow, looks great! I haven't even started our cars yet. Hoping to get started on them next week.

You can get more fragile than that:

Re: Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The Green Machine
I'm not sure I'd ever feel comfortable getting THAT fragile. Perhaps with one 'x beam' section in the middle, but not one big gaping cavity like that. I know the top and bottom veneers would help with overall rigidity, but that looks pretty breakable to me.

Seth, your car is looking cool love'n the green paint!
What's the wheel to track gap on the lifted wheel?
Hope the Rear wheel behind the DFW ...
doesn't hit a dad bump or a bad track joint comeing off the slope into the flat.
That would be a bad thing causeing the three wheel car to teeter totter to that side.
Your live feed video is working just fine that even I picked it out!
Hay, It was the only thing that I could see in the live feed to ask you about.
What type of automobile can be spelled the same forwards & backwards?

Re: Just in time for St. Patrick's Day. The Green Machine
Okay, THAT makes sense to me! I'm curious though... Behind your rear-most row of tungsten cubes, there's two extended pine wood side walls even further behind that last row of cubes. What's that for?

It is sitting on top of another car body. That is the car on the bottom you can see.
