Team Noskills 2015 Line-up
Team Noskills 2015 Line-up
OK, here is the line-up after a long couple of weeks.
First my daughter. 5.0 in wheelbase, COM 0.5. 1/4 in rail car with balsa (and ca glue) cover. Drift 2.5 in over 4 ft
She loves big cats. You may recall last years Tiger car:
Painted with acrylic paint. Made a custon stencil, sprayed in black and touched up in acrylic
The balsa makes it thicker than 1/4 in but its very light. Almost got in 24 1/4 cubes
Next my son; 5.25 in wheelbase, COM 0.5. 1/4 in rail car with birch veneer cover. Drift 2.5 in over 4 ft
The decal is from some Mindcraft player. (dont ask me ) Its his "skin". Made from printing adhesive paper and clear coat.
His is the thinnest as the birch is 1/32 I think. Als0 got 23 cubes in there.
Now for mine. Used a canopy this year. 5.0 in wheelbase, COM 0.5. 1/4 in rail car with balsa (and ca glue) cover. Drift 2.5 in over 4 ft
Kept alot of pine around the canopy as I wanted it anchored well.
Here is the balsa cover. Routed out as much as I could as well. Its pretty light.
Got the color scheme from the Cooper mini. Thanks to Speedster for the pin stripes. GEE fenders painted black
Thats it for this year. Likely send the best to the mid-America again,

Whoohoo, been waiting for these! Lookin' sharp, as usual.
You seem pretty comfy running that 1/2" COM. Guess it's been working for you thus far! I think we'll be closer to 5/8" or so on our cars.
I get the impression that your son kind of likes Minecraft.

Re: Team Noskills 2015 Line-up
Well done Team Noskills!
The balsa superstructure on that one car. Explain to me it's purpose. Is it to add strength to the thin pine frame while not adding weight?
I'll have to pass the pics. of the Minecraft car over to my twins. They are Minecraft 'superfreaks' and will surely be able to explain to me what those pixels represent.
(okay, 2 hours later, I'm editing this post as my boys are telling me that it's a Minecraft Squid )
I also have no problem running a 1/2", or even a 3/8" COM, if the car is tuned right). We hope to get a LOT of progress made this week and this coming (last) weekend before our Derby.
Regards,
Scrollsawer

Nice job with all the cars Team Noskills!

And your son's minecraft car is cool.

Re: Team Noskills 2015 Line-up
Thanks guys. Vitamin K, I would run a 3/8th COM but 1/2 was the tightest I could get. Scrollsawer, I used the balsa for those exact reason plus I don't have a nice vinyl cover to use in lieu of a veneer. I made one league car with a vinyl cover and got 24 cubes into that one. My son tells me the skin is from a "famous" Minecrafter with the screen name ibalisticsquid. He is one of these kids that play the game, make YouTube videos and have a following. The skin is suppose to look like the squid in the game. I just cut and paste!

The cars look awesome. Thanks for sharing! There are some serious skills in the NoSkills clan.
Unless you can track test these before racing, I recommend increasing the steer to 3.5 inches at least. Particularly the 5" wheelbased cars. Over steer will cost you thousandths, under steer and the resulting wiggles can cost you hundredths.

Scrollsawer-Not a bug..but 60s is right (yet they didnt change the body much from 50's to 70's in htis make). The post is note is where the fender skirt is going. Look at the slope in the back of the car-thats the key.
Here is a true side view with no post-it note.

Seth, it kinda looks like a mini cooper to me..but the 60's mini coopers were box looking cars.
I'd say this classic car is a porsche ... It's looking really good Seth!
And I want to see more photos of it when it's race ready..
Whoda.
