4.9 vs 5.0
4.9 vs 5.0
In another thread I spoke of my experience with a cumulative time event. I won't rehash details. The issue today; at weigh in my buddies sons car weighed in at 4.9, I insisted he add the weight he disagreed, calling me a fanatic! Considering he missed final by a cumulative .008 I am convinced the extra .01+ oz.(not sure if scale measured to nearest tenth) would have made a difference.
I recall a thread, however am unable to locate at the moment, that had approximate calc of what .01oz. meant at finish line. Anyone recall the numbers? tia

Max-V testing:

I don't believe 2.8 grams would've made up .008 cumulative

Re: 4.9 vs 5.0
According to Cory Young's results, a car that is 0.5oz light gives up about 0.017sec, a car that is 1.0oz light gives up about 0.035sec, and a car that is 1.5oz light gives up about 0.048 sec.
It think it would be fair to say that a car that is 0.1oz light probably gives up about 0.002-0.003sec, or 0.008-0.012sec cumulative over 4 runs.

Re: 4.9 vs 5.0
Actually doing the math (based on Max-V's testing w/graphite) I'm coming up w/ ~ .008 over 4 runs. Track length in play obviously, but might be a flip of the coin.

Thanks all for prompt confirmation of what I believed to be true, however didn't have data at my fingertips. Would have been a different race had he added .01! Car was lubed with Krytox, he "forgot" to break it in. Car was definitely getting faster, slowest run was first.

It certainly could have made the difference between placing or not. I just tried some simulations using Doc Jobe's Virtual Race software, and depending on the car, track, etc., it is quite possible to reduce each run by 0.002 seconds or more by adding 0.1 ounce.doct1010 wrote:Would have been a different race had he added .01!
