This years BSA wheels look like a regression
This years BSA wheels look like a regression
I went to the hobby store to buy a BSA kit for a sample. They carry the Revelle BSA Kit. New package, new wheels. The wheels had a painted serial number that caught my eye, and that led me to see these are Made In China wheels. I bought the same Revelle kit last year with the old box instead of the blister pak and the wheels were Made in USA. Now I knew that BSA is unable to source in the USA anymore, per their explanation on the website. And I understand the reasons so I am not jumping on their case. But look at the molding on the China vs USA wheels! Definitely not as crisp and defined. The front of the wheels where the 2 step hub is almost non existent compared to the US wheel.
Anyone else see this?
Are Scout Stuff's kits still using US wheels?

Looks like I missed that thread. Further discussion should follow in existing threads.

Has anyone picked up a kit at the scout shop this year?
Last year, tubes of wheels purchased at hobby shops were the Revell wheels, while tubes of wheels purchased at the scout shop were still the "good ones".
I hope these new Revell kits stay in the hobby shops, and that the kits at the scout shop will remain the same.

Re: This years BSA wheels look like a regression
I just placed an order with scoutstuff.org and will update on what I receive next week.
When I called them, the person I spoke with on the phone could not tell me if they were selling Revell stuff or made in the USA kits/wheels. They're supposed to call the distributer and let me know.

Re: This years BSA wheels look like a regression
On a bus to work..so I can't post a photo now, but I received several of the nee kits last night from Scoutstuff.org. The packaging has changed, but it contains made in the USA wheels. The block on the first kit didn't look as good as older kits, but I only opened one kit. The nails seemed slightly shorter at first glance, but have the same crimp marks. I'll compare later today.
Bottom-line.... Appears only the packaging is clearly changing.

Re: This years BSA wheels look like a regression
We got our kits tonight. They are identical to last year's kits.
The box is decorated like a present. Like last year, above the UPC symbol is written Item #17000.
Our box from last year was stamped with "IN0911". I assume manufactured in September 2011.
Our box from this year is stamped with "0812NI". I assume manufactured in August 2012.
The inside instructions say Kit No. 17006 and copyright 2010.
The wheels, nails, and blocks all appear to be identical.
