2 Time Pack Grand Champion [UPDATE] & District Champion
Big thank you to all the Derby Talk members for all they've shared. My sons swept scout and sibbling races. No race was closer than a car length. Now we're off to districts... which means we've got to do some tuning to get ready for the 42' aluminum track they run on (pack was 32' wood track).
Scout car details:
Sporty Spoon body. 4 ounces of tungsten cubes. 5/8" COM, extended wheel base, 1.8g BSA wheels from MaxV, MaxV speed axels, drilled canted rears and DFW (on the bullet), straight axels (had just enough toe not to bend the DFW axel), 3 wheeler.
Sibbling car:
Stan Pope rail body. 3.5 ounces of poured lead. 3/4" COM, extended wheel base, homemade 2 g BSA wheels, BSA axels, bent canted rears and DFW, 3 wheeler.
Cars were prep'd using methods described by 5 Kids on his web page and a few additional tricks learned in the PWD forums.

Here's the first picture of the scout car (green one in the middle). Will have to post a photo of car 2 when I get home.

Nice car! Districts are a blast. Slightly stressful but in a good way.

Re: 2 Time Pack Grand Champion
Cool!
There's a whole lot of wood left in that rail body, though! Maybe a bit thick! 1/4" thickness with 1/8" wide rails hs been a good compromise for us! Our last build had 4 oz of tungsten cubes plus about 0.2 oz of "trim lead" plus 4 wheels and axles in a "rail body!" The "trim weight' allows the CM to be adjusted from about 3/8" to 3/4" forward of the rear axles for best speed/stability.
I prefer to set the front wheels back another 1/4" or so to protect them from whatever the organizer might have at the end of the braking section (Don't you routinely outrun the braking section? ) Let the nose instead of the wheels take the braking impact!

Re: 2 Time Pack Grand Champion
The rails are 1/4 tall and about 3/16ths thick. Th ok is was the first car in that style we'd built so we were conservative. I'm glad we were because the stop section on the track solely consisted of a piece of foam rubber. Both cars were fast enough to bounce backb up the track 8-10 ft esch run.
My wife's car just over 1/8" blob on stick style car snapped in half from hard impacts.

Hmmm ... I can't account for only getting 3.5 oz of lead in it! Pic is deceptive .... rails look more like 3/8 to 7/16" thick by comparing them to the wheels. My reference used BSA wheels comparable to MaxV's minimally worked wheels... we can take some tread off, but not much, and nil elsewhere! Your wheels looked much lighter!
Glad you had good results...

Re: 2 Time Pack Grand Champion
Sorry that's supposed to be 1/2 tall by 3/16 thickness.
I was thinking about the green car that is 1/4 at the thickest parts.

Re: 2 Time Pack Grand Champion [UPDATE] & District Champion
Wow! Today my son won the District Championship in what I would describe as the closest race I've seen. The electronic lane judge was not working due to sun light so this was judged by eye (and video). We had to consult 4 different videos to determine the finish order.
Another big thank you to all the folks on Derby Talk for sharing so much good information.
