Need Advice for Mid Americas

Post by DerbyAddicted »

Ok, so I'm sending my son's car to the Mid Americas for the Graphite division. We have no expectations of winning (or even placing), we just want to see how we stack up.

We glued the wheels in with Glue All, and will need to use pliers to remove them. So here's my problem:

Should I just re-lube the wheels with graphite, break them in and then send the car off so I don't risk any damage to the axles, etc?

Or should I take my chances, remove the axles, re-polish and prep them (and the wheels) and reassemble and re-tune the car and then send it off?

For the record, we're also considering submitting an oil car.

Derbyaddicted,

Let me get this right. You have a cub car that has been run in pack race that you want to submit as a proxy car for mid-America. The options are relube or pull axles/wheels and reprep....correct?

Assuming the car has only made 6-8 runs in a typical pack race I think you can just relube. Thats my plan for my son whose car ran well. My daughter's car needs to be re-tuned (little wobble on the flat) so I might do a light reprep of wheels and axles.

Yep, that's correct. However, it was 10 runs. 6 in the Den, and then 4 in the Finals. Also, it's been sitting for 3 weeks, and the Mid Americas are another 2 1/2-3 months away.

Would it be safe to store that car in a Ziploc bag with some desiccant packs? Unless there are some contraindications, the packs should keep the humidity very low and inhibit any tendency for rust. Should be okay for graphite lube, but not so sure about oil???

I here tell that you don't want to let the car rest on it's wheels also.

:idk:
How true this really is when storeing a car in a box or on a shelf
the talk is it's hard on the wheel bores.

The open scout division is oil. I believe there is an adult division that is graphite only.

I would encourage you to look at the new addition to this years event... we are going to have a Open Scout Oil and an Open Scout Graphite Divisions... very exciting news. Hope that helps
