This was our 3rd time competing in the District Race. The first year we had problems with the laser based timing system not working properly which impacted many racers and kept us out of the medal contention. Oh well, sometimes things just go wrong. Our district races no longer allow laser based timing systems to be used anymore.
The second year we took 2nd place. It was a very close competition between my son's car and the 2 time district champ. I learned this weekend that the reigning district champ has been using lightened wheels, which is against our rule set.
We ended up taking 1st this year, but it was a bit tainted as the reigning champ had to replace his wheels "last minute". He was able to do that and still take 2nd, but it would have been nice to be able to compete without him having to replace wheels, as I'm sure that cost him significant time. The margin of victory was quite large (.03 seconds on average).

So are you saying that "it would have been nice to be able to compete" against illegally lightened wheels? (Again?)birddog wrote:it was a bit tainted as the reigning champ had to replace his wheels "last minute". Congrats on

No, it would have been nice to be able to compete against the top competitor who came to the race with legal wheels and didn't have to destroy any tuning he may have done due to replacing wheels at last minute. So are you saying that "it would have been nice to be able to compete" against illegally lightened wheels? We competed against lightened wheels last year and came in 2nd. This year, we competed against legal wheels, but he was forced to replace them last minute, likely messing up any tuning he had done.
Hopefully next year, he'll come with legal wheels and we can have a straight up fair comparison.
